Veteran British actress Brenda Blethyn has revealed she's a married woman - after an engagement lasting 35 years. The Secrets & Lies star wed art director Michael Mayhew in a low-key ceremony at a registry office in south London in June last year.
She spoke about the surprise nuptials during an interview on U.K. TV show This Morning on Wednesday, and told of her relief after so many years as an unmarried couple.
Blethyn says, "(It was) last June. After a 35-year engagement! It just seemed the time was right. Michael decided to leave the National Theatre and it just seemed right. We had a quiet wedding in Peckham registry office, and Michael took it so seriously. His chin started to quiver as we were taking our vows. I was in hysterics.
"It does actually feel different. I can't put my finger on what it is. It's kind of like a continual cuddle. I can't explain it."
Mayhew is Blethyn's second husband - she wed Alan Blethyn in 1964 but their marriage ended in 1973.

British actress Brenda Blethyn is planning to quit acting next year, so she can spend more time with her long term partner. The Oscar-nominated actress is keen to leave Hollywood behind and fulfill her ambition to tour the world in a camper van with boyfriend Michael Mayhew. Blethyn, 58 - currently shooting a new version of Pride And Prejudice - says, "I shocked myself yesterday by the realization of all the roles I've had. I've gone from one to another. So I thought, 'Why don't I retire?' What's wrong with that? It would be nice to read a book, to potter about." As for her financial situation, Blethyn adds, "I'm sensible with money and with what's left I am generous and a little bit frivolous. Economic stability is important to me. I don't borrow money. I can't bear to be in debt. As soon as I could, I paid off my mortgage."...
