New Zealand-based sales and distribution company Black Mandala has picked up international rights to Spanish-language genre film and 2023 festival hit “I’ll Crush Y’All” (aka “Os Reviento”).
Portrayed by Mario Mayo, Gabriel, better known as ‘Tarado,’ is a former boxer who lives in a secluded village outside the city with his father and his dog. He could still box, but to avoid what led him to spend a few years in prison, he prefers to lead a quiet life. The death of his father and the shady dealings he was hiding attract a wide range of characters to his home, each with worse intentions than the last: a brother with a troublesome new girlfriend, an angry admirer, mobsters with dark purposes, and thugs looking for a stolen bag of money.
It debuted at the FantasticFest in September and won the audience prize at both FantasticFest and the Sitges genre film festival.

Hello, dear readers! August 10th looks to be something of a quiet day for horror and sci-fi home media releases, but one of this writer’s favorite films of 2021 is arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this week—My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To—so that makes me incredibly happy. Cult genre fans will be excited about the opportunity to add The Frenchman’s Garden and Jess Franco’s Angel of Death to their personal media collections, and if you missed it in theaters, The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks 2 is headed home on Blu and DVD this Tuesday as well.
Other releases for August 10th include re-releases for Friday the 13th (1980), The Haunting (1999), Disintegration, Day of the Reaper, Prison of the Psychotic Damned, and Dark Stories.

Jess Franco: A name that inspires awe in some, revulsion in others, and eye rolling from those who see the sheer quantity of his output and are immediately dismissive. Making close to 200 films will tend to put one in that kind of light, as quality control would seem nigh impossible. And it was, for the most part; as someone fairly new to the sordid and sweaty oeuvre of Franco, I am choosing to highlight what I think are interesting, or at least enjoyable films from his catalogue. So it was with slight trepidation that I threw on 88 Films’ excellent restored Blu-ray of Devil Hunter (1980). Where would it land on the Franco Scale? As it turns out, a fun Indiana Jones meets Cannibal Island Monster jaunt is where he lands, and I’m more than happy to follow.

Its hard to believe, but growing up I thought Jess Franco was a horror-filmmaking god; even though I’d never seen a single one of his genre films. Why? Well because I was an avid subscriber of Dark Side Magazine and the way they wrote about Franco and his films with such reverence (and some irony it would seem looking back at it now), you would have thought he was up there with the horror greats. Yet while, now, I know differently – Franco was very much a journeyman filmmaker, cranking out films at a pace unheard of today – he still has a huge fanbase out there. You only have to look at just how many of his film are available on DVD and Blu-ray,...

We have a fantastic trailer for Edgar Ramirez's new film The Liberator for you to check out today. It tells a fascinating story that is sure to make for a solidly good movie. The story centers on Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco, or Bolívar as he was known. He was one of the most influential military leaders and freedom fighters in Latin America's clash for independence from colonial Spanish rule. Bolívar lived from 1783 to 1830, and this movie is a biopic that tells his story. I'm not really that familiar with Ramirez, but it looks like he gives a hell of performance in this feature. Here's the synopsis:
"Edgar Ramirez stars as Bolivar, one of the key figures in Latin America’s struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire. The film is told from the viewpoint of Bolívar, following his quests and epic military campaigns,...

Washington, Oct er 10: A Mexican man had kept his girlfriend under a 'chastity lock' for the last 12-years fearing that she would be unfaithful to him.
According to CNN, the 40-year-old boyfriend, Jose Antonio 'N', of the 25-year-old woman had been locking her pants every morning ever since she started living with him, but last month she alerted the cops as she had to use the bathroom but was too afraid to cut her pants open, the Huffington Post reported.
The police officers found the victim alone at home but quickly tracked down Antonio and brought him into custody, where he confessed to having shut his girlfriend's pants with the metal lock.
According to El Universal, he was later released after he paid a fine.

Exorcisms have been fascinating people for centuries, a realm of myth and faith, of angels and demons. Films about exorcisms certainly abound. But how many documentaries have you seen that actually delve into the world of exorcisms? Norwegian director Fredrik Horn Akselsen does just that in the documentary The Exorcist in the 21st Century.
The film follows two different people whose paths cross in these deeply personal stories about exorcising demons. Father Jose Antonio Fortea is a Roman Catholic priest who bears the distinction of being one of the very few Vatican-approved exorcists.

Wow! I literally just jumped up for joy hearing this final wave. I think that this might be my favorite selection of films since I have been attending. Films like American Mary, Antiviral, Berberian Sound Studio, the remake of Who Can Kill A Child? – Come Out and Play and the World Premiere of the sequel to The Collector! These films plus a few others just caps off what I’m sure will be my favorite Fantastic Fest yet!
Also, for those keeping score, Michael picked 7 movies that are definitely showing while I picked 6. However, this could change once the secret screenings show. Again, Fantastic Fest starts next Thursday and we plan to have reviews, interviews and possibly video & audio blogs. Anyway, here’s the announcement:

Casey Anthony is known for partying -- even while search parties were looking for her missing 2-year-old daughter.
But these days Anthony might not be so happy with what's blaring over the club speakers.
A year after Anthony's notorious murder trial began, some details live on in the furious flow of some big name lyricists.
Yes, Anthony may not have been found guilty in the death of her daughter Caylee, but her trial lives on in rap music from the likes of Eminem to Childish Gambino -- and from up-and-comers like Princeton and Lady. Some lyrics are a serious look at the case, while others are comedic or just plain vile.
Warning: All lyrics in this report and in the videos below are graphic and may be offensive for some audiences.
"The shit I'm doin' this year? Insanity/ Made the beat then murdered it: Casey Anthony," said comedian Donald Glover,...

Fredrik Horn Akselsen's new movie has been Vatican tested and approved. No, really. It has. The Norwegian filmmaker follows real-life, church appointed exorcist José Antonio Fortea for his creepy documentary The Exorcist of the 21st Century. The devil has always been a hot commodity in horror, and Akselsen's film feeds our ongoing obsession with the devil. It's a known fact that the Catholic Church has — and sometimes still does — perform exorcisms. They were a popular occurrence throughout the 20th century — particularly during the '60s and '70s. Was it simply due to the social/political/economic unrest during that time, or is Satan the real deal? Who the heck knows — but we're interested to see what Fortea has...

Okay, so this has nothing to do with either Daffy Duck or Loony Tunes. That headline was a momentary bit of madness that has us grinning from ear-to-ear. What we have here, kids, is a new documentary detailing the fight against Big Red!

Fans of Jess Franco and exploitation cinema today are mourning the tragic loss of one of the biggest stars in her industry and sub-genre, the all too young Lina Romay.
As reported by Video Watchblog, the news emerged today from Spain, where actor Antonio Mayans formally announced Romay's death last week, on February 15th at the age of 57 due to a lost bout with cancer.
One look at her IMDb page and you'll see that Lina amassed quite a body of work to go along with her quite beautiful body. Dubbed Franco's muse, Romay burst onto the genre scene with 1972's The Erotic Rights of Frankenstein and is best known for films such as Female Vampire, The Sinister Eyes of Dr. Orloff, The Mystery of the Red Castle, Erotic Kill, and many, many more. In the Eighties Romay moved from the front of the screen to behind-the-camera as a director of a dozen different films.

I first discovered the captivating allure of Lina Romay 30 years ago in the early days of VHS when I rented a tape called The Loves Of Irena on the old Private Screenings label. It was Spanish director Jess Franco’s erotic 1973 twist on the vampire legend also known as (among other titles) Female Vampire, The Bare Breasted Countess, and Erotikill. Romay spends most of her screen time almost completely nude, strolling about in the fog wearing nothing but a cape and big wide black boots and I was immediately smitten. I sought out more films with the actress and found out she was Franco’s common-law wife and would perform in over 100 films from the prolific cult director including such gems as Barbed Wire Dolls, Jack The Ripper, and Wanda The Wicked Warden (with Dyanne Thorne, it was later retitled and sold as an Ilsa sequel). Romay and Franco had...
