And it's a wrap on principal photography for the anxiously awaited The Raid 2: Berandal! Director Gareth Evans shared the news via Twitter and also mentioned what the final shot entailed.
Late last night Evans tweeted the following:
"After almost 7 months, to everyone who contributed in the making of this film… it’s a fucking wrap. #TheRaid2Berandal"
"Final shot of the day, as expected, was a kick from @iko_uwais - sadly it was to the stomach and not to the face. Good kick though :)"
When a follower responded with a request for him not to "hold back on the killing this time," Evans replied:
"I learnt my lesson last time, far too much restraint."
This one simply can't get here soon enough!

Gareth Evans’ The Raid was without a doubt one of the biggest breakout films of last year, gaining favour from both audiences and critics alike, which isn’t common for a martial arts film. And needless to say, the upcoming sequel, The Raid 2: Berendal, is definitely something we’re looking forward to.
The sequel picks up where Evans left off in The Raid, and production is very much underway out in Indonesia.
We saw a handful of first images as production began earlier in the year. And now Evans has taken to Twitter to share two new images. The first gives us a look at a new character, rather brilliantly called ‘Hammer Girl’. And the second is a set photo giving us a look at a stunt scene.
Picking up right where the first film ends, The Raid 2 follows Rama (Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks...

One of the things that made The Raid so ridiculously memorable was the film's violence. The fight scenes were as brutal as they come, and there was enough additional gore to make even the most jaded viewer squirm.
The good news is that director Gareth Evans is continuing that blood-soaked tradition with the sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal. Check out the first gruesome still he shared online via his Twitter account below.

Starting production this week in The Raid 2: Berandal, the sequel to the Indonesian action hit The Raid: Redemption, which is one hell of a film. Kinetic, unforgiving and wildly entertaining, director Gareth Evans’ action spectacular made waves last year and due to its success, a sequel was ordered up. Picking up only a few hours after the first film, shooting on the sequel is now underway and along with a press release, we also have a few stills from the set of the film, which is undergoing a 100 day shoot.
Considering The Raid: Redemption is one of my favourite actions films ever, I couldn’t be more excited for the sequel. Some of the scenes that Evans and his team constructed for the first film still blow my mind. Writer/Director Gareth Huw Evans and star Iko Uwais are confirmed to be returning, with the cast rounded out by Tio Pakusadewo, Putra Arifin Scheunamann, Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad and Roy Marten. The ambitious shoot is scheduled to last 100 days, with a projected 2014 release. Evans promises the sequel will be “bigger, better and bloodier.” In related news, Xyz Films,...

The sequel to "The Raid: Redemption" has officially started production. Though it might not have started shooting on January 19 like Gareth Evans promised, Pt Merantau Films and Xyz Films have sent out a press release stating that "The Raid 2: Berendal" began production on January 31.
"To all our fans thank you so much for your support. We can't wait to come back and show you what we have been working on," Evans said in the release. "We’ll be there in 2014 with a film bigger, better and bloodier! Wish us luck."
We'd wish them luck, but someone we're guessing they don't need it. The upcoming film brings back Iko Uwais in the main role, and also stars Tio Pakusadewo, Putra Arifin Scheunamann, Julie Estelle, Alex Abbad and Roy Marten. We’re not alone in having a certain affinity for the work of Gareth Evans, director of Merantau and The Raid: Redemption. The Welsh director who makes his living in Indonesia, where he has spent years crafting his own brand of brutal martial arts films, just speaks to us on that most special of levels. His films are pure adrenaline shot right into one of those thick veins in your arm. And he’s making more of these films, much to the excitement of everyone who has seen either of his first two films. In a new press release this week, Pt Merantau Films and Xyz Films announced the start of production on The Raid 2 (Indonesian title The Raid 2: Berandal). If that’s not enough, there are also pictures from the set that we’re more than happy to share. According to the release, The Raid 2 picks up right where the first films ends following ”Rama...

“Tracking Shot” is a monthly featurette here on Ioncinema.com that looks at a dozen or so projects that are moments away from lensing. This February we’ve got a slew of projects that we feel are worth signaling out: we start with a sequel (and pictured above) we find The Raid 2 (also known as Berandal) which has set up shop with the same producing team, star player and writer/director Gareth Huw Evans. Sony Pictures Classics backed the film prior to production. This picks up two hours after the first installment ends.
We have the highly touted Black List screenplay that could very well place itself in the fall festival releases in David O. Russell’s adaptation of American Bullshit – a film we imagine will be much talked about because of its cast (Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Louis C.K.) and the plotline (an FBI sting...

One of the biggest success stories over the past year and half has been Gareth Evans’ The Raid, released as The Raid: Redemption in the Us. So naturally, there’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the sequel, The Raid 2 (released as The Raid 2: Berendal in Indonesia).
The original film debuted at Tiff back in September 2011, won the Midnight Madness Award, and went on to theatres in the spring of 2012. And since then, it’s gained pretty much overnight cult status as one of the best action/martial arts films in recent memory.
Production has officially begun, with Gareth Evans once more directing from his own script, and leading man Iko Uwais returning to take the lead.
