Charlize Theron has been set to receive the 33rd American Cinematheque Award, the honor bestowed annually by the nonprofit arts organization to honor an “extraordinary filmmaker in the entertainment industry who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture.”
This year’s ceremony is set for November 8 at the Beverly Hilton. A second honor, the yet-to-be-announced Sid Grauman Award, will be presented the same evening. The gala benefit raises funds for year-round programming of the Cinematheque.
“The American Cinematheque is extremely pleased to honor Charlize Theron as the 33rd recipient of the American Cinematheque award at our celebration this year,” American Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita said Monday. “Charlize Theron is making a significant contribution to the art of motion pictures while breaking through outmoded limitations on what an actress and producer can do. Actor Alec Baldwin's former business partner is suing him, claiming he owes her $125,000 of his earnings from a recent television movie. According to the lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Corrinne Mann and Baldwin formed El Dorado Pictures in 1995. They agreed to develop productions for film and television and split producer fees and profits from any joint projects. But the lawsuit claims the 45-year-old actor never paid Mann half of the $250,000 he or the production company collected in fees from the TV movie Second Nature. Although the film aired on American TV channel TNT in June, Mann had helped develop it before she and Baldwin severed their relationship in 1998, said her attorney Ken Nathanson. Mann, who later formed her own production company, accuses Baldwin of fraud and breach of contract. Her lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
