Joe Carnahan's The Grey is a bleak tale of the human will at its finest. Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, Nonzo Anozie, and James Badge Dale star in this tale of survival against insurmountable odds. Carnahan and Ian Mckenzie Jeffers co-wrote the script that tells the story of an oil drilling team struggling to survive after a plane crash strands them in the Alaskan wilderness. If battling the elements was not enough, the survivors are hunted by a bloodthirsty pack of wolves who see them as intruders.
This movie would have been great to have been released during the summer, because the amount of snow chilled me to my bones. Neeson is great in just about every movie I have seen him in (aside from Clash of the Titans). He has such commanding presence onscreen as a wise, troubled man forced into a situation where he has to lead.

An Alaskan crew of working men is flying back to Anchorage from their worksite when the unthinkable happens — their small aircraft breaks down and crashes into the frozen and blizzard-torn wilderness.
Among the small handful of survivors is Ottway (Liam Neeson), a freelance sniper originally hired to protect the men from aggressive wildlife. Ottway immediately provides some semblance of order for the survivors. The men are understandably in a deep state of shock and chaos rules immediately after the crash. Ottway has survivalist skills, and he puts them to use in organizing the men, gathering food and starting a fire to help fend off the deep cold.
Unfortunately for the men, they are not the only things alive in this frozen terrain.

New poster for The Grey, starring Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts and James Badge Dale. The Joe Carnahan thriller which looks like a massive adrenalin ride, opens via Open Road Films on January 27th. Carnahan helms as well as scripting the pic along with Ian McKenzie Jeffers. Based on the short story by Ian McKenzie Jeffers called "Ghost Walker," The Grey follows Neeson's character who leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements – and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt – before their time runs out. The cast also includes Joe Anderson, Nonso Anonzie, Ben Bray, James Bitonti, Jonathan Bitoni and Larissa Stadnichuk.

Director Joe Carnahan said when shooting on The Grey began that his intention was to "beat the crap out of the cast." Judging by this poster, he certainly took a crack at Liam Neeson. As with the recent teaser trailer, there's little or no indication here that anyone else is in this film but Neeson. But we're also getting snow and violence and intensity, which seems entirely appropriate. Neeson's thousand-yard-stare doesn't look like one you can break. The film sees Neeson and his oil-rig cohorts surviving a plane crash into the Alaskan wilderness, and fighting to survive their injuries, their environment, and the slight problem of some hungry wolves. Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Badge Dale and Nonso Anozie are Neeson's hapless colleagues. Ridley and Tony Scott produced, the screenplay is by Ian McKenzie Jeffers (Death Sentence) and the film's out on January 27.

You may not know it, but we’re doing some pretty amazing things at the Village. Although we don’t have a lot of space here at the Village bar, we’re still doing some kickass stuff, bringing some of the most delightful beers to our Badass Tap week after week and having a rotating line of special bottles that’ll make your tongue roll out of your mouth.
For instance, our current Badass Tap is Wytchmaker Rye Ipa from one of Austin’s newest breweries, Jester King Brewing company. Wytchmaker is a well crafted Ipa bursting with a nicely blended variety of hops that lend to a nose of pine and grapefruit, and is well balanced with biscuity malt. The addition of the rye brings through a nice spice that sets it apart from your standard American IPAs.
Wytchmaker is currently only available on draft, but we’ve got...
