One of the founding members of the American country music group Dixie Chicks, Laura Lynch, died in a car crash in West Texas on Friday evening (US Pacific Time), her cousin Michael Lynch told CBS News, according to ‘Variety’.
Lynch, the group’s bassist, shared lead vocal duties on the band now officially known as just The Chicks with co-founder Robin Lynn Macy until Macy’s departure in 1993, at which point she became the sole frontwoman. She was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
Chicks members Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer (previously Erwin) issued a joint statement on Lynch’s death: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and travelling together.

Marion Cotillard is set to join the cast of Ubisoft and New Regency's upcoming film adaptation of the video game series "Assassin's Creed".
Michael Fassbender will play two characters - in the present day he's Michael Lynch, in the past he's an assassin named Aguilar de Agarorobo during the time of the Spanish Inquisition.
Cotillard role will be that of a female character named Lara who provides assistance to Fassbender's present day character. Cotillard's character is expected to be used in multiple movies.
The Justin Kurzel-directed film ties back into the storyline of "Assassin's Creed II" with Tomas de Torquemada serving as the past villain and Abstergo CEO Alan Rikkan serving as the present day one.
The project marks a kind of reunion of the three key talents on the upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" which Kurzel, Fassbender and Cotillard filmed last year.

According to Deadline, the brilliant Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) will join Michael Fassbender in the big-screen adaptation of video game series, Assassin's Creed. Her role is apparently under wraps, but if recent rumors are to be believed, she could well be playing a female assassin named Lara who gives Fassbender's character a helping blade. Speaking of which, the X-Men: Days Of Future Past actor is rumored to be playing two roles: a death row inmate named Michael Lynch in present day, and an assassin named Aguilar de Agarorobo in the time of the Spanish Inquisition. None of that has been confirmed however. Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) will direct, with a script from Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Assassin's Creed is scheduled to be released in 3D on December 21, 2016.

The Boston Herald received a swell of backlash after it published a cartoon featuring President Barack Obama and a joke about watermelon toothpaste.
Boston Herald's Obama Cartoon
The cartoon in question, written by the Herald’s Jerry Holbert, was meant to take a jab at the failures of the secret service. It pictures a White House bathroom with the would-be intruder hanging out in the bathtub, calling over to Obama brushing his teeth, “Have you tried the new watermelon flavored toothpaste?”
After the cartoon was published, readers took to Twitter to condemn both Holbert and the Boston Herald's staff for allowing the racially insensitive cartoon to get to print.
Would it have been so bad to just say "peppermint" or "bubblegum"? @dankennedy_nu @universalhub pic.twitter.com/QGbNDwyEme

The Boston Herald's entire staff should be ashamed for allowing that cartoon to be published.

The premise of the video game series "Assassin's Creed" is one in which any famous historical setting can be adopted by a particular entry. This makes it ideal for a film adaptation as the story can incorporate any number of settings that won't just be a re-tread of an already existing game.
The games themselves have been set during the Third Crusade, Renaissance-era Italy, Constantinople at the height of the Ottoman Empire, the American Revolution, the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy, the French Revolution and Newfoundland during the Seven Years War.
Now, Film Divider has posted a report suggesting that they've discovered the primary setting for the upcoming Michael Fassbender-led film adaptation currently in development at New Regency, Sony Pictures and Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Film Divider is claiming to have some exclusive details according to sources on the plot and characters of the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie adaptation based on the video games of the same name by Ubisoft. Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is said to play two characters in the film set in two different time periods. His first role will be Michael Lynch, "a death row inmate who becomes pawn in the Assassins-Templars war" living in present time. His second role will be Aguilar de Agarorobo, who is an Assassin during the Spanish Inquisition. Aguilar's father is said to be "an assassin chief", which is a similar idea to the Assassin's Creed 2 video game where protagonist Ezio Auditore's father was an important figure of the Assassin's Creed. In the present, Michael will be subject to tests made by a researcher named Joseph "who is a bit of a baddie". However,...

As a veteran of 2006′s Rock Star: Supernova, Josh Logan knows better than any of his current Voice counterparts what national TV exposure can do for the career prospects of a working musician — and how important it is to capitalize on said momentum.
“After Rock Star, I was definitely doing more high profile gigs. I was playing in Iceland. I was playing in Canada. And I was making a hell of a lot more money than before,” Logan recalls. “The problem was, I really didn’t move as quickly as I should have. I dropped the ball.”

This was a pretty fun episode of television! Cher returned and gave lots of great advice. Ed Sheeran didn’t do much, but at some point I realized that he might have an entire sleeve of tattoos. They were peeping out of his Oxford collar! Does this mean that tattoos are officially over? Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch, “Harder to Breathe”I never realized when I was just a wee babe living in Providence, Rhode Island, and screaming Maroon 5 out a window, that I was singing the lyrics that a murderer might sing to his prey. Listening to this dumb battle last night, I finally realized “Harder to Breathe” is the most insane song I have ever known. To wit: “Does it kill / Does it burn / Is it painful to learn / That it's me that has all the control.” Those are the lyrics and Adam Levine wrote them!

The men dominated the second week of battle rounds on The Voice Monday night as rock and pop music took center stage during several powerful duets, including a credible cover of one coach's own hit.
Christina Aguilera had her soulful team members Josh Logan and Michael Lynch perform a rendition of "Harder to Breathe," a 2002 Maroon 5 hit written by frontman Adam Levine for his group's first record. Levine seemed entertained by their confident performance as Cee Lo Green pointed out the similarities to the original.
"You almost sounded identical," Green told Logan, a 33-year-old father from Manchester, N.H.

‘The Voice’ delivered another night of intense competition Oct. 21. With the battle rounds coming to a close, the judges were on high alert for any potential steals — and Adam knew just who he was looking for.
Destinee Quinn 20, and Lina Gaudenzi, 23, battled for a spot on Team Christina with “Not Ready To Make Nice” by The Dixie Chicks. Christina Aguilera said she chose the song to bring both girls a little out of their comfort zone, and the winner would depend on how willing they were to let go. Both girls were very connected with the song during the performance, but Adam Levine found a few technical glitches. Ultimately, the choice came down to emotion versus range. For Christina, it was Destinee’s emotion that won the battle. But Adam swooped in and stole Lina before Carson Daly could even get a word in edgewise!

The Battle Rounds continue on during Monday's (Oct. 21) episode of Season 5 of "The Voice," which coaches Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and CeeLo Green continuing to whittle down their teams by pitting one of their artists against another. Who makes the cut and who gets the boot? Let's find out.
Battle #1: Team Christina's Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch
Xtina paired the two gents up because of the soul she thinks both carry in their voice, tasking them to take on Maroon 5's "Harder To Breathe," which ought to make Adam uncomfortable. During rehearsals, Michael admits he doesn't know the song very well and struggles with the verbose lyrics. Christina grew irritated because neither seemed to know the song with enough comfort to actually entertain a crowd with it. Not exactly a wise move considering the guy who created it will only be feet away from you.

With only eight spots left to fill on all four teams, the final night of ‘The Voice’ blind auditions proved to be the most intense yet.

Filmmaker Brendan Gabriel Murphy
By Terry Keefe
Very occasionally, we here at The Interview run across an up-and-coming talent that deserves inclusion amongst the more established names we generally tackle. Filmmaker Brendan Gabriel Murphy has got youth on his side, along with an eye which has produced some very striking, and unique, imagery in the two short films that we had a chance to see (Swerve and Perceptio). It's the rare short that makes you want to see what the director could do with a feature, but Murphy fits that bill.
He's also got an interesting on-screen collaborator in actor Shiloh Fernandez, who made his film debut in Murphy's 2005 short, Wasted. Fernandez is one of this year's true rising acting stars, having just landed a lead in the reboot of the Evil Dead franchise. Murphy is currently developing a feature entitled Obscura, which will star Fernandez as well.

The winner of The Renovators has been accused of cheating during his time on the reality TV show. Michael Lynch, a 27-year-old builder from South Australia, won $$100,000 (£68,000) in prize money on the Channel Ten series last year after selling his revamped Blacktown fibre cottage for $$440,000 (£300,000) at the end of the season. A source has claimed that Lynch broke the rules of The Renovators by using free labour from Sydney-based plumber Michael Sidaros, instead promising the tradesman free on-air 'plugs' to boost his business. The insider told The Daily Telegraph: "The deal was for the plumber to receive some free promotion on the show (more)...

The Good, The Bad, (The Meh,) and the Ugly- American Idol 11.1 Recap
The Good, The Bad, (The Meh,) and the Ugly
American Idol is back! Just to remind us that it's the original singing competition, they name check all ten winners at the beginning. The cynic in me says that this is the only time that Idol will acknowledge some of them, but one can hope. Instead of going chronologically, I'm going to organize my thoughts into separate categories.
The Good:
I like the balance of good/bad auditions, I hope that remains a theme throughout the season. There was a nice mix of both men and women, and while it seemed the auditioners skewed young, maybe my age is starting to show.
I especially liked Gabi Carrub, who sang Sunday Morning without any pretension, Schyler Dixon (Colton's little sister, in case you forgot,) Ashlee Altise, who was almost borderline funny audition,...

Michael Lynch has been crowned the winner of the first season of The Renovators. The South Australian builder, who refurbished a fibro cottage on the Channel Ten home makeover series, walked away with $$100,000 (£65,000) after his property made the most profit at auction, while fellow contestants Peter Mosticone and Melissa Thomsen left empty-handed. The Renovators was the most-watched show on TV last night despite poor ratings earlier in the series. As a result, it has now been commissioned for another season next year, but bosses have said that they want to make some changes to the format to boost audience figures further. A Ten spokesperson told the Herald Sun: "We will obviously be reviewing the components that did and didn't work." (more)...

It feels like American Idol only finished yesterday (we know it was actually last month sometime) but already the judges have been talking about next year’s season of the show. Ellen DeGeneres has revealed how her judging style will change next year and Kara DioGuardi has been talking about who she wants to replace Simon Cowell.
Ellen DeGeneres joined the panel as a newbie for the 2010, but says she has now found her feet as a judge and plans to be tougher on the contestants next year. Admitting that she was ‘too soft’ on hopefuls like Casey James, Mike Lynch and Aaron Kelly, Ellen told USA Today:
“Your first year anywhere is going to be tough, because you’re trying to figure out what your role is.”
“I think next year my role will be to be exactly who I am, sometimes funny and sometimes serious, and I think...

There was already a celebration underway on stage when I first walked into the Idoldome last night — the final night this season for the Idoldome, point of fact, as next week the show moves what is sure to be its mildly diverting positively riveting finale to downtown Los Angeles in the behemoth Nokia Theater, a.k.a. the IdolDeathStar. Surveying the scene back in the Idoldome, for a second I surmised the ongoing festivities were for Casey, Crystal, and Lee, since all twelve season 9 finalists were there (including that one with the red hair! and the other one with the color contacts!

Casey James was voted off 'American Idol' last night (19.05.10). The surfer-come-cowboy lost out in the semi-finals to Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, who will now face off in show finale next week. The 27-year-old guitarist performed a laid-back version of Eric Hutchinson's 'Ok, It's Alright With Me' with singer Michael Lynch, which was followed by criticism from the judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi. Simon said: ''That was a dud song choice, I'm afraid. But you sounded good.'' Randy added: ''It was just kind of all right for me.'' Chat show host-turned-judge Ellen was also unimpressed. She said: ''This was do or ..

"American Idol" celebrated a little bit of a ratings return last night and it was a good night to tune in. The contestants tackled songs from the movies with Jamie Foxx as their mentor. While their solo performances failed to impress the judges, the duets between Lee DeWyze with Crystal Bowersox and Michael Lynch with Casey James earned high praise. How did the duets come together? I've got the story straight from the contestants.

While we were hanging out in La, Lee said he actually believes he has a shot at winning American Idol — which is a big change from the shy, unconfident guy I was expecting!
Never, ever would I have thought that I would be hanging out with the four remaining Idol hopefuls, let alone be joking around and becoming pals with them! But today stars aligned in my favor, and I got to hang with Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, Big Mike Lynche and Casey James at the American Idol Studio in La. Sweet!
Betters are predicting a Lee/Crystal finale, and I can see why: the guy is utterly devoid of ego, but so cool and collected. When he talked about his future as a winner, it sounded like he really Believed (finally!) good things will happen.
“The thing is, there are so many talented musicians and artists out there.

HollywoodNews.com: Last night pop star Lady Gaga performed on the show with her song “Alejandro,” and has created some controversy among the media today. The show cut down her six and a half minute performance, which included a slow intro of “Bad Romance,” to only five minutes. Probably not a smart move for the show considering many people tuned in just to see Gaga perform. But what has really happened is Gaga’s performance has overshadowed the spotlight from Aaron Kelly, who was voted off “American Idol” last night.
The youngest competitor on the show has a charming smile and has won over the hearts of many teens across America. In all honesty, he made it far than anyone ever expected the kid could do and we have to give him props for that. I wouldn’t be surprised if this kid picks up a record deal in the future,...

Aaron Kelly was voted off 'American Idol' last night (05.05.10). The 17-year-old singer - who performed 'Fly Me to the Moon' during Tuesday's Frank Sinatra themed show - was given the boot from the Us reality singing competition after the public's votes landed him in the bottom two alongside Michael Lynch. After learning his fate, Aaron told presenter Ryan Seacrest: ''I've had a great time, I've had a blast.'' Despite finding themselves in the lowest spots, the pair's performances had been praised as two of the best during the evening by the judging panel - consisting of music mogul Simon, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi ..

Increasingly nutty American Idol host Ryan Seacrest explained his behavior, sort of, in an interview with the L.A. Times today. First, he showed he's either out of touch or dishonest, saying that this season "certainly wasn't sleepy up when Michael Lynch was going for that save ... I hope that it's not considered a sleepy season." He added, "I get all kinds of feedback -- nothing really different than years past." Really, the same feedback...

As a result of the judges using their save last week to keep Michael Lynch on the singing competition, two "American Idol" hopefuls had to go on Wednesday night's results show. One of those two was Katie Stevens, who talked to Et this morning about how her "Idol" journey was important to her because of her grandmother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. "My grandmother [helped] raise me and she was such an inspiration," Katie says. "She has gone to every performance that I have ever been in. She inspired me to follow my dreams. When she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, it affected me. I wanted to do something great that she could see while she still remembers me. I have accomplished my goal, which was to have her be proud of me, so I am happy." Adam Carolla has done the math. The comedian, actor, and multimedia ranter is studying what appears to be a trap door in the ceiling of the garage he personally helped build for his West Hollywood home. He's scowling.

The office, a modernistic anomaly when compared with the rest of the house, was designed to do one thing: showcase one of Carolla's many expensive vintage cars,...

Aw, Mike, Big Mike. My American Idol favourite, Michael Lynche takes on the soul classic When A Man Loves A Woman.
He takes the stage accompanied by a string quartet and a pianist, and everything should work – it’s Big Mike, singing a soul song on American Idol! What’s not to like? Well, something’s missing. After winning us over with some excellent performances in every live show so far, Mike seems somewhat half-hearted tonight.
Even the judges pick up on it. Despite being brought to tears by one of Mike’s earlier performances, this week Kara was almost bored to tears. She famously describes the performance “loungey”, a sentiment which Simon picks up on as well. However, I have to point his own inventive use of metaphor when he likens Michael’s performance to wanting one scoop of ice cream and getting eleven. I blame DeGeneres for this over-reliance on metaphor as criticism!

'American Idol' eliminates Todrick, Lilly & more. It's more than obvious America loves their reality television, particularly if it involves aspiring singers performing their takes of some of our favorite songs. So why are most of us left sobbing come Thursday nights? Because that's the day of the week where viewers learn whether their favorite "American Idol" contestants will be sent packing their bags.
Fortunately, the only contestant eliminated tonight that I found even remotedly likeable was Lilly Scott, but even that is saying a lot. Listen to someone who knows – our guest blogger, 28-year-old Blake Lewis – is a man who knows! He did come in as American Idol’s Season 6 runner-up, after all!
#1: Michael Lynch singing ‘A Man’s World’ by James Brown. This guy finally showed that he was really in the competition last night [March 2]. He opened the show off with the right song choice for his voice and set the bar high for the guys from the get-go. He’ll be in the top 12, no doubt in my mind.

Most contestants that have tried to play the guit-fiddle fall short when singing and playing. Casey did well.
