Turns out, romantic comedies may want to rethink their moniker - to romantic creepies. A new study from University of Michigan gender and sexuality expert Julia R Lippman claims that male behaviors often show in rom-coms are actually pretty damaging to our perception of what's "normal." Basically, rom-coms are making us think actions that are actually pretty creepy and borderline stalker-ish are romantic, sweet or passionate. Lippman looked at women's responses to aggressive behavior in relationships in two groups. The first was after watching rom-coms like There's Something About Mary and the second, non-romance movies like March of the Penguins.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.
Below, a final goodbye to the 90s to end the nostalgia once and for all. (We're not kidding. There are 1990 items below.)

Still having the time of their lives on the USA Network comedy series Psych, the show is continuing its long-held tradition of featuring a beloved homage episode each year. Previous years have included Twin Peaks, Hitchcock’s “Vertigo” and “Chinatown.” This season the big homage episode is for the film classic “Clue” for Psych’s 100th episode. During the press set visit, star Dule Hill talked about the big romance in Gus’ life this season and what it was like working with the stars of “Clue.”
Can you talk a little bit about Gus’ new love interest for this season?
Dule: Yeah, we have the lovely Parminder Nagra. She’s on the show this year, and Gus finally kind of takes a few steps into the relationship-world. It still doesn’t go exactly as planned, but so far, so good. I think it’ll be exciting for the audience to see.

Will Rupert Murdoch go down for Nine Months or escape on Titanic? We launch our own inquiry into Fox-backed films
Hugh Grant has declared that he had no idea that Nine Months, the dopey pregromcom he made in 1995 with Julianne Moore, was a Fox movie – that is to say, one for which Rupert Murdoch was ultimately responsible. He says that if he knew then what he knows now, he never would have accepted the role.
Murdoch bought Fox in 1985 – he had to become a Us citizen to do so. But if there was a searching internal inquiry into quality at Fox – similar to the searching internal inquiry into ethics avowedly taking place at News International – how would the arguments stack up? What movies made or distributed by Mr Murdoch would be adduced in evidence? As the defendant sits impassively in the dock, perhaps behind bullet-proof glass, here are the opposing...

Takings for alien action flick won't dent its hefty budget, but they are enough to take it to the UK top spot ahead of Rango
The winner
For the second week in a row, a new release tops the chart with a gross that won't exactly have the multiplex chain HQs popping champagne corks. Sony's pricey Battle: Los Angeles debuted with a so-so £1.79m. A pretty underwhelming figure given that recent alien-invasion flick Skyline kicked off last November with £1.21m, despite having a no-name cast and a production budget a fraction of Battle: La's reported $100m. Furthermore, Cloverfield launched in 2008 with a much heftier £3.49m. Battle: La has also underperformed in the UK relative to its Us opening of $36m, a figure that indicates a UK number of about £3.6m – double the achieved result.
The flops

Battle: Los Angeles breathed new life into the alien invasion genre as it topped the box office for the weekend ending March 11-13, 2011. Other new films that opened over the weekend did not fare as well; Red Riding Hood got lost in the cinematic forest and Mars Needs Moms bombed.
10. The King's Speech $3.6 million
The reign of the king nears its end, but it's been a good run for the Weinsteins' British import. $130 million in ticket sales and a Best Picture Oscar later, The King's Speech was the year's biggest surprise.
9. Gnomeo and Juliet $3.61 million
The Disney-distributed flick dropped 50% from the week before, but not because of newer animated flicks like Rango. I blame it on the unfunny performance the gnomes gave as hosts of the Oscars.
8. Just Go With It $4 million
This movie keeps hanging around, far past its welcome, much like Adam Sandler's career.
7. Hall Pass $5.01 million
Oh how the mighty fall.

The animated lizard film took in about $38 million in its debut week in theaters.

Johnny Depp is now truly the Lizard King. At least at the box office.
"Rango" was the #1 movie in America over the weekend with an estimated $38 million opening, according to studio estimates. The animated film reteams Depp with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski, and also includes the voice talents of Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers"), Timothy Olyphant ("Live Free or Die Hard") and Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine"). It's an impressive debut for the reptilian adventure tale, which features Depp as the title character — a chameleon who becomes sheriff of a dusty desert town.
Matt Damon enjoyed his biggest opening as a leading man since 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum" with the fantastical action/romance "The Adjustment Bureau," which was #2 at the box office with a $20.9 million debut.

Hollywood executives can breathe a slight sigh of relief: Winter 2011 has finally come to its ignominious conclusion, with Hall Pass topping an otherwise uneventful week at the box office. Not too far behind was fellow Warner Bros. release Unknown and Disney/Touchstone animated hit Gnomeo and Juliet, while the week's other opener Drive Angry failed to shift out of first gear. Thanks to Hall Pass's middling result and Drive Angry's disastrous start, overall box office was off 11 percent from last year when Shutter Island led for the second week in a row. Hall Pass ended its first week just shy of $18 million. That's down from The Farrelly Bros.'s 2007 comedy The Heartbreak Kid but up a bit from Fever Pitch and Stuck on You (though the gap with Fever Pitch closes when adjusting for ticket price inflation). While it did take the top spot, Hall Pass has the...

After being narrowly pipped to the top spot over the full President’s Day weekend, the romantic toon Gnomeo and Juliet made good as the number one film in America during its third weekend in the charts.
After two consecutive low drop percentages (both in the 20% range) the Disney film is maintaining a considerable staying power which is reminiscent of last year’s sleeper hit animation How To Train Your Dragon which went on to claim over $200 million domestically after a $43.2 million opening haul. If Gnomeo and Juliet continues to perform as it is now it could easily reach the $150 million mark though it may well struggle in the coming weeks with the upcoming release of Paramount’s heavily publicised children’s animation Rango.
Gnomeo and Juliet is this week’s Box Office Success Story of the Week.

Some folks thought a 3-D retelling of a Shakespearean classic starring computer-generated garden gnomes in the title roles and backed by the music of Sir Elton John wouldn't work. But the joke is on them.
"Gnomeo & Juliet" was the #1 movie at the box office over the weekend, besting newcomers "Hall Pass" and the underperforming "Drive Angry 3D." Nobody is happier than the film's executive producer.
"We never thought we'd be going to our own Oscar party having a #1 movie," John told MTV News on the red carpet for his 19th annual Academy Awards viewing party at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, which benefits his Elton John AIDS Foundation.
"We are over the moon," added his husband, David Furnish, who is also a producer on the Disney film,...

Walt Disney's G-rated "Gnomeo & Juliet" beat the Farrelly brothers' R-rated "Hall Pass" at the box-office on Oscar weekend. The animated tale with a Shakespearean twist held strongly on its third week of release taking the No. 1 spot with $14.2 million.
Meanwhile, the raunchy but sweet "Hall Pass" from the creators of "There's Something About Mary" starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, and Christina Applegate debuted at No. 2 with $13.4 million. (Check out my interviews with the cast and the Farrelly brothers for "Hall Pass" right here)
But the sad flop story of the weekend belonged to Nicolas Cage and Summit Entertainment. Their "Drive Angry 3D" sold just $5.1 million worth of box-office tickets landing at No. 9. Ouch!
Meanwhile, Liam Neeson's "Unknown" continued to perform rather well in its second week of release. So far, the mystery thriller has accumulated $42.8 million for Warner Bros.

HollywoodNews.com: In kinda shocking news, the patently mediocre Gnomeo and Juliet is still benefiting from the utter lack of real kid-flick competition for one more weekend and actually reached number one in its third weekend. Dropping just 26% in weekend three, the third-rate toon has still grossed $75 million and has a shot at $100 million. I’m sure Disney is just as flabbergasted by the stunning success of this one as I am. This was basically considered a dump until just a month or so ago. Expect much personal embarrassment if the more costly and high-profile Mars Needs Moms fails to outgross this ‘offbrand’ cartoon after it opens on March 11th. We need Rango now more than ever…
Personal anecdote: I actually took my three-year old to this during the week during a day off from preschool. She has been going to the movies with me periodically since...

After box office receipts were down nearly 29 percent in January, the big question is whether the month of February can reverse this startling downward trend. With an Adam Sandler romantic comedy, the big-screen debut of pop sensation Justin Bieber, a sci-fi action movie set in high school and the latest Farrelly Bros. comedy, it's unlikely that February will fare as poorly as January. With no major holdovers, though, it's going to be tough to reach February 2010's $754.7 million, much less February 2009's record-setting $769.3 million. Feb. 4 While February as a whole doesn't look too bad, the first weekend should continue January's negative trend. The movie with the most hype is easily Sanctum, which has executive producer James Cameron hitting the press circuit as aggressively as he did for Avatar's opening (he recently created a Twitter account for the sole purpose of promoting the movie). Besides the its 3D presentation and Cameron's association,...
