Ahmedabad, May 27 (Ians) Shubman Gill’s sensational 129 off 60 balls followed by veteran pacer Mohit Sharma’s impressive fifer (5/10) helped Gujarat Titans thrash Mumbai Indians by 62 runs in Qualifier 2 and reach the final of the Ipl 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, here on Friday.
The win also meant that Gujarat entered the Ipl final for the second successive time and will meet Chennai Super Kings in Sunday’s title clash at the same venue. Co-incidentally, the first match of Ipl 2023 was between Gujarat and Chennai at the very same venue on March 31.
Chasing 234 was always going to be an uphill task for Mumbai. Mohammed Shami struck in his very first over when makeshift opener Nehal Wadhera went for a pull, only to edge behind to keeper. Cameron Green got going with a first-ball four, but retired hurt in second over after being hit on left forearm while trying to fend off Hardik Pandya.

With the rest of the batters not contributing much, Gurbaz stood up to enthral the spectators with 39-ball 81, laced with five fours and seven sixes. Russell, the birthday boy, smashed a 19-ball 34, with two fours and three sixes, to take Kolkata to a competitive total. Ahmedabad, March 30 (Ians) Gujarat Titans were the flavour of Ipl 2022. The newly-created franchise, in its debut season, ran all the way to the trophy, making for a delightful story as all departments of the game clicked in unison throughout the tournament.
Now, Hardik Pandya & Co would be eager to begin from where they left off at their home ground Narendra Modi Stadium last year — secure wins in emphatic fashion. Ipl 2023 opener will see the Titans face off against four-time champions Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Ipl 2023 has a lot of new initiatives like ‘impact player’ and announcing teams after the toss. But at the same time, there is a return to the good old comfort of the home-and-away format, which had been held back for the last three seasons due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Adelaide, Nov 3 (Ians) Though Ireland have an extremely slim chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of Men’s T20 World Cup, their left-arm pacer Josh Little is fully confident of his side eager to go out on the field with the hope for a victory when they face New Zealand at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Ireland had earlier stunned the West Indies in their final first round match in Hobart to qualify for the Super 12s. Then, in a major surprise, they got the better of a much-fancied England in a rain-hit fixture at Melbourne. Ireland can claim to make a hat-trick of upset victories if they edge past Kane Williamson & Co.
“I think if you just look at the tournament so far, you’ve seen upsets nearly every day or every second day, if you can even call them upsets anymore. Everyone is pretty competitive. It’s a World Cup.

Dublin, Dec 11 (Ians) Cricket Ireland has announced a 16-man squad for the two Odi series against the UAE and Afghanistan set to be played in January. The Odi series against Afghanistan will be part of the World Cup Super League.
This will be Ireland first international action since their dramatic run-chase victory over World Champions England back in early August.
Players and support staff, who are not on the tour, will remain at home under Covid-19 safe conditions in case a substitute needs to be flown out to Abu Dhabi during the month, said Cricket Ireland.
Gary Wilson will not join the Ireland squad for this tour in order to be at home for the birth of his second child, with Neil Rock coming in as wicket-keeping cover.
There is also no place for the likes of George Dockrell, William Porterfield, Boyd Rankin, who were all part of the touring party to England in August.
