Collaborating with leading international institutions, Klubb Super 8 has undertaken extensive restoration work on a range of films under its rights.
It is working with the British Film Institute (BFI) on the revered classic “Champagne Rose is Dead” (1970) and the Swedish Film Institute (Sfi) on such cinematic treasures as “Anita – Swedish Nymphet” (1973), starring Christina Lindberg and Stellan Skarsgård; “The Lustful Vicar” (1970); “The Language of Love” (1969) and “Terror in the Midnight Sun” (1959).

Exploitation cinema doesn’t have a particularly good name, and in a way I think that’s how I, and other fans, like it. As with all genres, there’s a lot of crap to sift through, but every now and then you’ll find a dirty, battered, unpolished and (if you’re lucky) uncut diamond of a movie. Thriller: A Cruel Picture is unapologetic and unflinching in its status as an exploitation movie. It’s a film that befits its name, and it’s been restored to all its scuzzy glory in this definitive, extras packed, 4K and Blu Ray release from Vinegar Syndrome.

Another year of Fantaspoa has wrapped up in Porto Alegre, Brazil and by all accounts, from friends who were visiting the festival with their films, to those from the festival itself, a good time was had by all. Some more than others? In a grand twist our friend, Deodato Holocaust director Felipe M. Guerra got married, no, really married, at the end of the festival. The ceremony was 'officiated' by our other friend, Terrified director 'Father' Demian Rugna, with the blessings of festival guests Roger Corman and Christina Lindberg. I mean, I know first hand that Rugna hosts a perfect Asado but I did not know that he was 'clergy'. Our congratulations to Guerra and his wife Daniela! Having already won the night...

Ahead of the UK premiere of Adrián García Bogliano’s hypnotic Black Circle at Arrow Video FrightFest Glasgow 2019, star and Swedish exploitation icon Christina Lindberg reflects on memorable moments, meeting Tarantino and making a comeback.
How did your modelling career start and did that inevitably lead to your career as an actress?
I was discovered the classic way; on the beach at the age of 18. After having been photographed as a “bathing girl” for most of the newspapers in southern Sweden, I was asked to do a centrefold shoot for one of Sweden’s biggest men’s magazines, by Siwer Ohlsson, the most celebrated glamour girl photographer of the time. I said yes to throwing away my bra, despite the fact that as a young woman, I was very shy.
The photos grabbed a lot of attention, and a Swedish film producer got in touch. He offered me a role,...

Currently at its most vibrant and popular, the horror fantasy genre is constantly garnering critical acclaim, pushing boundaries and asking tough questions of audiences by reflecting relevant political and social issues. It all started with Exposed. I’m not sure what brought this 1971 Swedish sexploitation film to the suggestion portion of my Netflix account (presumably the roster of Jess Franco films recently added), but after reading the description, I figured it was worth a shot: “A pretty young teen finds her innocence lost when an unguarded night of revelry yields shameful secrets, and a stack of nude pictures that could ruin her life. But to get her hands on the negatives, she’ll have to expose herself even further.” That is indeed the basic plot of the film, which plays out exactly as one would expect for such fare. But what was unexpected while watching Exposed (also known as the much less enticing Diary of a Rape), was the 21-year-old star of the film. Her name is Christina Lindberg.
Exposed, for lack of a better phrase, is what it is. It...

The doe-eyed , baby-faced Swedish actress Christina Lindberg is best known for starring as Frigga in the 1974 rape and revenge classic Thriller, A Cruel Picture, which was released in the U.S. under the title They Call Her One Eye. Born in 1950, the voluptuous Ms Lindberg was an incredibly popular nude model in men’s magazines before beginning her movie career, which lasted from about 1970 to 1975. Her debut was the 1971 hit Maid In Sweden followed by more successful “soft-core” sex dramas such as Anita The Swedish Nymph, Exposed, Campus Swingers, Swedish Wildcats, Young Playthings and a dozen or so more. She went to Japan in 1973 and co-starred in Sex And Fury and Sex In Japan. Otherwise all of her movies were made in Sweden where she has lived her entire life. Christina refused to act in the hardcore sex films that began to dominate the industry by the mid-1970’s and...

As a fan of extreme horror - both in tone and gross-outs - I have been keeping a close eye on The Profane Exhibit. The anthology of extreme horror will include segments directed by a collection of internationally renown filmmakers like Sergio Stivaletti (Dellamorte Dellamore), Coffin Joe (At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul), Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police), and Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust) who returns to horror after over twenty years.
Each segment will be introduced by a different person, known collectively as the Gentlemen (regardless of gender), storytellers from important moments in horror history. Previously announced Gentlemen include Bai Ling (The Crow, Dumplings) and Tony Todd (Candyman). Joining that list are Laurence Harvey and Christina Lindberg.
Laurence is best known for his role in The Human Centipede 2, and will appear in The Human Centipede 3. Christina is best known for Thriller: A Cruel Picture (aka They Call Her One-Eye) a...

Christina Lindberg, star of the classic exploitation film Thriller: A Cruel Picture, aka They Call Her One-Eye, is back in front of the camera for writer/director Todd Fischer with Cry For Revenge – which sees Lindberg don the eye-patch once more, as the put upon Candy, in another revenge-laden tale.
Also starring Stefanie Vuleta, Christian J. Simpson, Stephanie Fischer, Rodney Cox, Keltee Martin, Mika Kron, David Devita, Ashley Cambron, Shay Gilbert, Erin Belle, Cassie Lynn Young, Michelle Kruse, Lisa Kwon and Ray Shain, the synopsis for Cry For Revenge goes something like this:
They took her innocence, they poisoned her mind, they ravaged her body, they left her for dead. Now they’ll beg for mercy and she’ll cry for revenge.
Check out some official stills and behind the scenes photos below, and you can read a great interview with Lindberg over at Fangoria; plus check out the films official Facebook page here.

From this distance, I can’t see the details of her face—no laugh lines, or any indication that this grindhouse icon has aged 40 years since They Call Her One Eye (a.k.a. Thriller: A Cruel Picture). The trenchcoat, the bell-bottoms, the shotgun and the swagger are all there, which would be enough to send the mildest of cult film fans reeling. But it’s the eyepatch that breaks me out in goosebumps. Speaking of which, what led writer/director Fischer to direct such a scene?

Synapse Films and Impulse Pictures is releasing an obscure Christina Lindberg (Thriller: A Cruel Picture aka They Call Her One Eye) movie in Wide Open to DVD on August 6th.
Featuring the gorgeous Christina Lindberg in her final screen role in Wide Open. Taxi driver Paul and his beautiful journalist girlfriend Marianne already have a strained relationship when things get crazier by Paul bringing his drunken father back to their apartment. As tensions rise, they decide to chill out at a wild movie party and things go from bad to worse (for Marianne anyway) when they both wake up in bed together with Marianne’s sister, Beryl!
Marianne leaves, so Paul decides to spend some time watching strippers and taking Beryl along for some nighttime fun. Everything is going great, until Beryl gets picked up by the evil Mr. X and things turn dangerous. A stolen mink coat, drugs, and...

Christina Lindberg is probably most famous for her role in the revenge classic Thriller: A Cruel Picture aka They Call Her One Eye, which I recommend you check out if you haven’t already, but she did make other movies. The last of which was Wide Open which Synapse Films are set to release on August 9th.

For a long time I’ve boasted that if you want to see what’s happening in the neo-grindhouse movement, the best thing you can do is go look for the independent filmmakers and see what they’re up to. Because whether it’s “The Hood Has Eyez,” or “Foxxy Madonna vs. The Black Death,” the odds are it’s better than the entirety of “Grindhouse.” Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed “Grindhouse,” I did. I thought it had a lot of creativity to it but felt more like a throwback than an attempt to mimic the actual grindhouse motif. Because even the most ardent grindhouse fans will tell you that the best grindhouse films have a lot going for them: One is that they’re usually comprised of zero budgets, and two, they’re often tedious. “Thriller: A Cruel Picture” is one of my favorite cult films of all time,...

The first five hours of Frightfest day two were all about horror legend Tobe Hooper and the day kicked off with his rare debut film Eggshells. Made in 1969 Eggshells is an early experiment from Hooper. Testing out techniques and experimenting with form Hooper misses more times than he hits but overall the film is interesting and one that when viewed in the context of the year it was made and as an early fragment from Hooper’s career, absolutely fascinating. The film is receiving a release soon and I can recommend checking it out and if you’re a Hooper fan, it’s an essential purchase.
Following that was his incredible The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What more can I say that has not been said before, the film is astonishing. Hooper then took to the stage for a Q&A where he regaled the Frightfest audience with stories of working...

Synapse Films gave Fango the scoop that it has snapped up the North American rights to Embodiment Of Evil (see our review of the import release here), the new adventure of Brazilian horror legend José Mojica Marins, a.k.a. Coffin Joe (pictured). The company also provided us the first look at cover art and specs for its upcoming DVD of the Japanese sci-fi/horror opus Battle Girl: The Living Dead In Tokyo Bay (Batoru Garu), streeting February 23.
Embodiment Of Evil’s scenario, written by Marins and Dennison Ramalho, sees the evil Coffin Joe rising from his grave to continue his quest for a woman to bear his child, torturing and killing anyone who stands in his way. The film has won raves and awards at numerous international festivals, including Montreal’s Fantasia (see story here), Spain’s Sitges and others. Synapse will issue the film on DVD and Blu-ray...

If I were asked to put together the perfect man night, by whom I don't know, it would inevitably involve Jack Daniels, local Austin beef ribs the size of a cruise ship, and a 70's revenge film. I love the ever-living hell out of movies like Death Wish, Lady Snowblood, Get Carter, and Thriller: A Cruel Picture (also known as They Call Her One Eye). The film Taken actually feels like a throwback to the balls-to-the-wall revenge films of the era and I will watch that movie at the drop of a hat (that is, if I really want to take revenge on you for dropping my hat). Sweet Karma, by all rights, should have been something I loved for exactly the same reason. I'm getting ahead of myself. Sweet Karma is the story of a gorgeous, mute girl from Russia whose sister gets lured into the world of sex trafficking. With...

Take your seats, class: Senior writer Chris Nashawaty continues his in-depth weeklong tutorial on all things Quentin Tarantino for the latest installment of EW University. Check out our gallery of 20 Tarantino movie and movie poster faves , our Quentin Tarantino trivia quiz, and our take on the original 1978 Inglorious Bastards. Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds: Playing spot the reference Any time you sit down to watch a movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, you're not just watching that movie, but all of the movies he's ever seen. Let's face it, the guy has never been shy or apologetic about his movie-love. You could say that when Tarantino name-checks some arcane chop socky movie or slyly alludes to a Eurotrash cheapie, he's giving a shout-out to the cognascenti -- his fellow movie geeks -- in the audience. In other words, when you watch a movie by Qt, you're actually watching two movies...
