Daniel's great-grandfather, Charles Lillford-Delph, was an actor in Victorian London. His brother, Daniel's great-uncle, Harry Lillford, also an actor, left England for America, settling in New York City, where he had a successful career on Broadway working with the likes of Ronald Coleman and Claudette Colbert. The Lillford brothers specialized in playing character parts. As well as the theatre, both brothers worked in early film talkies.
