Minutes after the Writers Guild of America declared it was on strike, members lit up social media with vows to stay strong as they prepare to hit the picket lines on Tuesday.
News of the strike, which takes effect later this evening, came late Monday after the guild’s negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach an agreement on a new film and scripted TV contract. It’s the WGA’s first strike since the 100-day walkout of 2007-08.
Reaction on Twitter was swift. “Here we go,” wrote David Simon. “See you all on the pavement, my brothers and sisters.” He followed it with the hashtag #WGAstrong.
Some expressed fear but that was quickly replaced by resolve, as scribes encouraged fellow members to ignore the spin “that’s already coming out.”

After serving as a writer on The Big Bang Theory and its spinoff Young Sheldon, Tara Hernandez makes her debut as showrunner with Mrs. Davis, which premieres the first four episodes Thursday on Peacock.
The absurdist comedy follows Betty Gilpin’s hero nun Simone on a quest to find the Holy Grail in the hopes of destroying the all-knowing algorithm — known as Mrs. Davis — currently controlling everyone’s lives. For Hernandez, who co-created the series with Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers), getting a rare shot at running her own show also meant incorporating some of her passions, including a love...

ABC has given out a pilot order to a legal drama currently titled “Judgement.”
Per the official logline, the show is “a high-stakes legal soap that redefines the genre by playing out over two timelines. Fifteen years from now, a woman being vetted for a Supreme Court seat recounts her experience at a prominent D.C. law firm in 2023, where the only thing more controversial than the cases was her messy love life, caught between two feuding brothers. Now, with a Supreme Court seat on the line, all of her darkest secrets are at risk of coming out, threatening her nomination, her reputation, and her marriage.”
Joey Falco is the writer and executive producer of the pilot. Melvin Mar and Jake Kasdan will executive produce via The Detective Agency. Jordan Cerf of Mosaic will also executive produce. 20th Television, where The Detective Agency is under an overall deal, will produce.

It seems one of the original Charmed writers isn't bewitched by their successors. The Charmed revival's season four finale aired on June 10, marking the end of the series. In the finale, Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) and Kaela (Lucy Barrett) discover a portal to Halliwell Manor, where Piper (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), Prue (Shannen Doherty) and Paige (Rose McGowan) lived in the original show. As executive producer Joey Falco told TVLine, "We wanted to eventually tie these universes together." Exceutive producer Jeffrey Lieber added that they hoped to re-introduce the Og stars—that is, if they're...

The CW reboot of Charmed might have wrapped up its four-season run on Friday, June 10, but the show’s executive producers, Joey Falco and Jeffrey Lieber, have revealed where the story would have gone next. “Even though this show has ended, these ladies’ journey doesn’t end,” Falco told TVLine. “They’re still fighting. We weren’t going to end with them sitting around a table reading stories to their grandkids like the original show did. The battle continues, which is where we want to leave the audience. They’re still out there fighting.” One of those future stories would have seen Mel taking over the Blue Camellia magic club. “That’s probably the sweet spot between the Mel who was the angry activist at the beginning of the show and the Mel who found herself along the way,” said Liber. “That’s be the perfect place for her to...

Now, that's how you get fans talking.
For four seasons, The CW's Charmed reboot has forged its own path, taking viewers well away from the world of the original series.
However, Friday's emotional series finale concluded with one of the most shocking scenes ever.
The Charmed ones - Mel, Maggie, and Kaela - found a mysterious door that gave them pause.
“Are we sure about this? Another world? Other Charmed Ones?” Mel asked.
On the other side of the door, the witches found themselves at Halliwell Manor, aka the setting for the original series, which starred Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, and Alyssa Milano.
The sisters vowed to see who lived in the iconic location.
It was quite the scene -- and set-up -- for another season.
Unfortunately, fans will be waiting with bated breaths because The CW canceled the series after four seasons, meaning there will likely never be resolution.

The current cast of Charmed — Mel, Maggie, and Kaela — discovered a mysterious door emblazoned with their signature triquetra, TVLine reports.
So naturally, they have to find out what’s on the other side. What they find is Halliwell Manor. the home where Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige stirred things up in the original Charmed.
“We wanted to eventually tie these universes together,” executive producer Joey Falco told TVLine of the series, whose Season 4 finale had been conceived before the CW made a decision last month to cancel it. Exec producer Jeffrey Lieber told the publication that they writers drew inspiration from the Spider-Man franchise’s multiverse.

With the news that The CW has canceled around half of their scripted shows, there's a silver lining for fans of Charmed.
The series, under the leadership of Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco and Nicki Renna, has crafted its best season yet, so it's unfortunate that it's being canceled in its prime.
However, the Charmed writers social media account shared Thursday night, hours after the cancellation announcement, that they worked towards closure with the season finale.
"As you can tell by the amount of change happening today, we -- the writers -- were always aware that cancellation was possible," reads the Tweet.
"As such, we wrote toward closure. Meaning, we're not leaving you hanging."
"Moreover, there are some really, really, really cool things happening right up to the final frame."
"So, if you've been with us, and are willing to stay with us, we promise you won't be left in the lurch.

When the news broke that Madeleine Mantock was exiting Charmed after three seasons, it cast a dark cloud over the series.
I couldn't help but worry that the show would not be as entertaining without Mantock as part of the ensemble.
Thankfully, after watching the first two episodes of Charmed Season 4, all of those fears are gone.
Under new leadership from Jeffrey Lieber, Nicki Renna, and Joey Falco, the series mixes what worked the best on the initial three seasons with some fresh new concepts.
Despite Mantock no longer being a part of the show, Mel, Maggie, and Harry are still grappling with her loss.
TV shows often implement significant time jumps to effectively erase a departing character, but it would have been a disservice to the fans to act as though everyone got over Macy's death with ease.

Exclusive: Charmed is the latest scripted series whose restarted production has been disrupted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Filming on the CW drama has been paused for a day Wednesday as an individual from the production has tested positive for Covid-19, Deadline has learned. CBS Studios, which is behind Charmed, is following Covid protocols and conducting contact tracing, sources said.
The CW’s reboot of the fantasy drama, which films in Vancouver, previously shut down production last month for several days over delays in Covid-19 test results for cast and crew that impacted most series based there.
Charmed is set to premiere its third season on the CW on January 24.
The reboot of the series, which was created by Constance M. Burge and produced by Aaron Spelling that ran on the WB from 1998-2006, follows three sisters — played by Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffery and Madeleine Mantock — after the tragic death of their mother.

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Friday, July 24. The highlights are below.
The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.
In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.
Friday’s events include panels for all three of AMC’s “Walking Dead” series, Hulu’s new Marvel series “Helstrom,” and creatives like Charlize Theron, Joss Whedon, and Robert Kirkman.
The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 — is being announced daily through Sunday.
All times are Pacific Daylight.

Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof took a lot of flack from both critics and fans of the mystery drama series during its six seasons on the air, culminating in an all-out online rage-a-thon after it bowed in 2010 with a divisive finale. Generally, it’s felt the screenwriter has ‘redeemed’ himself over the last six years on TV, turning in three acclaimed seasons of The Leftovers with Tom Perrotta, and one hell of a spectacular spin on Watchmen during the final months of 2019.
Now that he’s got some perspective, it seems it’s a little easier for Lindelof to look back on the Lost era and open up about the battles he had with the show’s network, ABC, which began immediately.
“I’m not trying to be diplomatic, I’m trying to give you the most accurate answer the way that I remember it, which is the conversations about wanting...

YouTube has canceled “Impulse,” arguably its final out-and-out drama, after two seasons.
The cancelation leaves only a couple remaining scripted series at the web subscription service, namely “Cobra Kai” and “Liza on Demand,” and is the latest example of YouTube’s shifting content strategy.
The shift became clear in April of last year, when the quadruple cancelation of “Champaign Ill,” “Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television,” “Sideswiped,” and “Do You Want to See a Dead Body” signaled that rather than taking on streamers like Netflix and Amazon with a traditional slate of scripted projects, YouTube was changing its focus to genres such as unscripted, educational and music artist-focused docu-follows.
“Impulse” showrunner Lauren LeFranc shared news of the cancelation via Twitter, saying that “we tried to find a new home, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be.” In her statement, LeFranc talked about struggle she and the show’s creators faced “being on a new,...

Assistants across town, increasingly fired up online, are challenging the long-accepted industry standards of paying support staffers barely above the minimum wage. In person however, speaking up for these workers — at least on television productions — is a task that often falls to the showrunners who choose to advocate for those on set with the least power and the most to lose.
Of the half-dozen showrunners who spoke with Variety, some recounted going toe-to-toe with studios for pay raises, while others have willingly paid for assistants’ expenses out of pocket. Still others make sure to offer opportunities for career mobility in an increasingly pressured job market.
“I think studios and networks are traditionally really sh-tty at taking care of their personal capital,” says Jeffrey Lieber, the showrunner of Quibi’s upcoming “Don’t Look Deeper,” starring Don Cheadle. “I think they pay some people a lot of money, because they feel like they have to,...
