In another sign of how the pay TV marketplace is evolving, Up Entertainment is expanding its streaming offering by bundling in outlets that fit with the company’s faith and family-oriented entertainment theme.
Gospel legend Bill Gaither has teamed with Up to bring his GaitherTV+ package of gospel music and specials to the Up Faith and Family streaming platform as of next month. Also joining the Up Faith and Family bundle later this year, during the third quarter, is Minno, the indie streamer focused on content for kids that draws on the Bible and other spiritual themes.
Up Faith and Family has been available as an indie streamer since 2013, starting out with its G Movies service and rebranding to Up Faith and Family in 2018. The service has about 1.4 million subscribers at present. Charley Humbard, founder and CEO of Atlanta-based Up Entertainment, sees the expansion as a natural fit for Up Entertainment as well as consumers.

Missing in Action
Written by Arthur Silver, Larry Levinson, John Crowther, Lance Hool, James Bruner
Directed by Joseph Zito
U.S.A., 1986
In the aftermath of the Vietnam War, one of the contentious issues plaguing American-Vietnamese relations is the rumour that U.S. soldiers are still be held against their will in prison camps. This is something former Colonel James Braddock (Chuck Norris), who participated in the Vietnam campaign, firmly believes, unequivocally so, despite his inability to demonstrate it to the wider public. For reasons poorly explained, Braddock is brought along on a diplomatic mission to Ho Chi Minh where officials on both sides are to discuss the matter. Braddock is not the diplomatic type however, preferring to engage in a solo mission to discover the truth about his brothers in arms who are, supposedly, Missing in Action.
The funny thing about the movie is the way it begins, namely,...

Prolific TV movie producer Larry Levinson Productions has denied claims from the WGA that it owes millions of dollars in residuals to writers. The production company told Deadline today that the dispute instead is “over what appears to be the WGA’s unfair, improper, over-reaching and arbitrary application of its residual calculation for these pay TV movies.” In the past 20 years, the company has produced nearly 200 family-oriented telefilms, most of which were made for Hallmark Channel or in association with Hallmark Entertainment. The guild is pursuing arbitration claims against Levinson’s various production entities for unpaid residuals and interest owed on 33 of those TV movies and is threatening to bar the company from using guild writers again until it pays up. An arbitration hearing is scheduled for May 14. Related: WGA Targets Larry Levinson And Hallmark For Unpaid Residuals Llp said in a statement today, “The companies involved and drawn into...

The WGA is preparing to bar prolific TV movie producer Larry Levinson from ever using guild writers again unless he pays up on millions he allegedly owes in unpaid residuals. In the past 20 years, Larry Levinson Productions has produced nearly 200 family-oriented TV movies, most of which were made for the Hallmark Channel or in association with Hallmark Entertainment. The guild is currently pursuing arbitration claims against Levinson’s various production entities for unpaid residuals and interest owed on 38 of those TV movies. In a recent letter to a group of writers who Levinson allegedly stiffed, the guild stated that “Levinson continues to demonstrate an egregious, ongoing failure to pay residuals.” An arbitration hearing is set for August 14. In its notice of arbitration (read it here), the WGA claimed that two of Levinson’s companies, Hardstone Entertainment and Branwen Productions, violated the guild’s contract by failing to pay residuals on...

Earlier this week I saw a bunch of people on my twitter stream retweeting a bit of interesting film trivia: That the 1996 Pauly Shore/Stephen Baldwin "comedy" Bio-Dome was originally scripted as Bill & Ted 3. I was surprised as I had never heard this before. A quick google search showed that the information wasn't new, as it appears on hundreds of websites across the interwebs. The problem is that many of the webpages (which include some credible movie sites in the mix) provide the same minimal piece of info, and don't expand upon the story. IMDb's Trivia section (which, yes, is user submitted like wikipedia) has the largest explanation: A third sequel was planned, but was canned after Keanu Reeves, and later, Alex Winter, declined to reprise their respective roles. The script, which had already been written, was instead modified slightly, re-casted, and recycled into Bio-Dome (1996). It's a cool bit of trivia,...
