Moritz Mohr’s debut feature Boy Kills World is probably the best of the action offerings people have witnessed in recent years. Released on April 26, the action movie starring Jessica Rothe and Bill Skarsgård follows the story of a deaf and mute orphan who seeks revenge for his family’s murder.
Jessica Rothe as June 27 in Boy Kills World (2024)
While the film majorly focused on Bill Skarsgård as the lead, Jessica Rothe stole eyes with her phenomenal action sequences as June 27, an enforcer working for the Van Der Koys. Certainly, Rothe’s role demanded her to go through extreme training to convincingly become the ultimate fighter in the film. The actress therefore revealed learning 17 forms of Martial Arts in preparation for her role.

Last year, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. The film has since made its way through post-production, and FilmRatings.com reports that it has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong
sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. So this one is sounding quite promising.
Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband.

Producer Sam Raimi unleashed some gnarly cheese grater horror in last year’s Evil Dead Rise, and his next film as producer is armed with the very same skin-obliterating weapon.
I’m of course talking about Boy Kills World, which stars Bill Skarsgård as a deaf-mute action hero. The film from producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee is described as “a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality,” and Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are bringing it to theaters on April 26. How about a gory Red Band clip while you wait?!
Boy Kills World is rated “R” for “Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, language, some drug use and sexual references.” Preview some of the gory violence below…

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. Last May, it was announced that Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us had signed on to star in Weapons – but Pascal had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with his Marvel movie Fantastic Four, so he has since been replaced by Dune, Avengers: Infinity War, and No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin. Now The Hollywood Reporter has shared the news that Brolin is being...

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.
Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).
The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.
The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”
Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he...

Julia Garner, emerging quickly as one of Hollywood’s most in-demand talents, has nabbed the starring role in Weapons, the New Line horror movie from Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger.
Garner will star opposite Josh Brolin in the feature, which is due to begin shooting in mid-May in Atlanta.
Cregger wrote the top secret script for Weapons, which is described as an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Lionsgate is planning a May 17th theatrical release for the horror film The Strangers: Chapter 1, and with that date just three weeks away the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced that they’ve given the film an R rating for “horror violence, language and brief drug use.” That puts it pretty much in line with the ratings to the previous two movies in the Strangers franchise. Released in 2008, The Strangers was rated R for violence/terror and language. The Strangers: Prey at Night followed in 2018 and was rated R for horror violence and terror throughout, and for language.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 was directed by Renny Harlin, who shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time. We’ve heard that Lionsgate will also be releasing The Strangers: Chapter 2 and The Strangers: Chapter 3 by the end of the year.

Famke Janssen is not sure what Marvel has planned for the X-Men saga but doesn’t shut the door on the idea of reprising her role of Jean Grey / Phoenix.
Janssen originated the X-Men role in the 2000 film and would go on to play the mutant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress also made cameos in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey,” Janssen told ComicBook in an interview. “I came back as the Phoenix [The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past.”
Janssen noted that reprising the role following the initial films “were all surprises that I never anticipated” and didn’t put past appearing in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine,...

Who loves Zendaya? Show of hands? Well if you do, and Amazon MGM Studios is betting that plenty of 18-24 olds do, you can watch the Euphoria Emmy winner in Imax in Amazon MGM Studio’s Challengers this weekend, then sit around and watch her again in Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two.
The R-rated menage a trois tennis romantic comedy, Challengers, finally steps on the court this weekend after being pushed from its Sept. 15 release date due to the actors strike, with an eye at a $15M domestic opening at 3,400 locations, give or take. The pic will serve as a testament to Zendaya’s box office drawing power sans any attachments to major IP, read Dune or Spider-Man. Earlier this month, Lionsgate announced the revival of The Blair Witch Project franchise with a new movie. Now, in the wake of that announcement, the cast from the original film has come forward to decry “25 years of disrespect” from Lionsgate and make new demands ahead of the reboot.
Released in 1999 via Artisan Entertainment, the original Blair Witch Project starred Joshua Leonard, Heather Donahue (now named Rei Hance), and Michael Williams, who used their real names and likeness for the project. Since Artisan Entertainment was bought-out by Lionsgate in 2003, though, the cast has allegedly experienced quite a bit of disrespect, even down to being forced to go to court just to win back their own names (since their Blair Witch “characters” were IP belonging to the production house).

“Paranormal Activity” juggernaut Blumhouse is returning to the Og found footage franchise, “The Blair Witch Project.”
During CinemaCon 2024, Lionsgate announced a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse to reimagine other horror classics from the Lionsgate library, starting with the iconic 1999 indie. No other specific titles from the library were unveiled on during Wednesday’s CinemaCon presentation.
“I’m very grateful to Adam and the team at Lionsgate for letting us play in their sandbox. I’m a huge admirer of ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ which brought the idea of found footage horror to mainstream audiences and became a true cultural phenomenon,” Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum said. “I don’t think there would have been a ‘Paranormal Activity’ had there not first been a ‘Blair Witch,’ so this feels like a truly special opportunity and I’m excited to see where it leads.”

Horror maestro Jason Blum is reviving “The Blair Witch Project” for Lionsgate.
It’s a fitting pair because Blumhouse is known for its low-budget approach to terror. And the original “Blair Witch Project” had such a minuscule price tag it became one of the most profitable movies ever. Blumhouse is behind the skin-crawling “Paranormal Activity” and “The Purge” franchises, as well as newer breakout hits like “M3GAN” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” Blumhouse movies have generated nearly $6 billion at the worldwide box office — and that’s without spending all that much on production costs.
The announcement was made at CinemaCon, the annual movie theater trade show that’s currently taking place in Las Vegas. This film marks the first in a multi-picture agreement with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics for Lionsgate. Blumhouse, which has a first-look deal with Universal Pictures, recently collaborated with Lionsgate on “Imaginary,” a thriller about a sinister teddy bear from childhood.

Lionsgate and Blumhouse are headed back to the woods for a new Blair Witch Project movie.

Made for $35,000, it would go on to gross $249 million globally (postproduction costs put its budget closer to $200,00 to $500,000). It ushered in a found-footage movie boom and spawned a 2001 sequel and a 2016 follow-up. Roy Lee, who produced the 2016 film, is back for the new installment.

Bill Skarsgard stars as the titular character in Roadside Attraction’s crazy red band trailer for Boy Kills World. The two-minute trailer serves up plenty of over-the-top action and set pieces, with Boy taking on dozens of enemies before finally coming face-to-face with his most formidable opponent.
The action comedy also stars Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley, and Famke Janssen. Bob’s Burgers‘ H. Jon Benjamin provides the inner voice of Skarsgard’s character.
“Skarsgård stars as ‘Boy’ who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless,” reads Roadside Attraction’s synopsis. “Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death...

Produced by the legendary Sam Raimi, the film marks the feature directorial debut of Moritz Mohr. It was scripted by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on a deaf and mute character, Boy (Skarsgård), who navigates this depressing world with his otherworldly imagination.

A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. The ThunderCats are one of the most beloved 1980s animated series for many fans around the world and the series has become a proper cult classic among fans of 80s television. After the original series ended in 1988, there have been two animated revivals, but the original series still remains the best for many fans. In light of this, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the series has long been listed as a potential candidate for a live-action adaptation and as it seems now, the movie is still on track.
Plans for a live-action ThunderCats movie emerged as early as 2007 and as of 2024, the movie has yet to be produced, but Warner Bros. has seemingly been developing the project more actively since 2021, with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard set to direct. For Late Night with the Devil star David Dastmalchian, all roads lead to and from Christopher Nolan.
In 2007, Dastmalchian was a struggling local theater actor in Chicago, and when Nolan’s The Dark Knight set up shop in the Windy City, he went through a circuitous casting process before eventually landing a part in his very first feature film. Dastmalchian played Thomas Schiff, a paranoid schizophrenic and former Arkham Asylum inmate that Heath Ledger’s The Joker disguised as his fellow honor guardsman during their infiltration of Commissioner Loeb’s funeral procession. Margot Robbie is going from the plastic world of Barbie to the digital world of The Sims. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress’ production company, LuckyChap, has signed on to produce a movie adaptation of the long-running computer game.
The project is still in its earliest stages, but it does have a director: Kate Herron, who helmed the Disney+ series Loki and was tapped to direct some episodes of Season Two of The Last of Us. Herron will co-write the script with Briony Redman, with whom she just co-wrote an episode of Doctor Who.

Freya Allan clearly hasn’t gotten her fill of working on material that involves magic and monsters with her role on the Netflix series The Witcher, as she also has the lead role in the new horror film Baghead, which was given a theatrical release in the UK back in January. Now Shudder has announced that Baghead will be available to stream on their service (and on AMC+) as of Friday, April 5th. So if you’re a Shudder or AMC+ subscriber, you’ll have the chance to watch this movie in just a couple weeks. You can watch the trailer for Baghead, along with a clip from the film, at This Link.
First announced four years ago, Baghead went into production in late 2021 and is a feature expansion of director Alberto Corredor’s 2017 short of the same name. Scripted by Christina Pamies and Bryce McGuire, the film has the...

Could Margot Robbie be bringing the same kind of meta introspection and examination to The Sims in the way she did with Barbie? That is a possibility of what’s to come as her production company, LuckyChap, has taken on the life simulation game for an upcoming feature film. The Sims is an immensely popular game from Maxis, the company that first let gamers play God with the legendary simulator SimCity. While the brand followed up with other similar-natured games like SimFarm, Sim Hospital and SimAnt, it was in 2000 that they gave players the chance to live life in The Sims.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kate Herron, who is known for her work on the first season of the successful Marvel Studios series on Disney+, Loki, is set to take the helm on the feature. Herron is also attached to co-write the film with Briony Redman. Robbie’s LuckyChap also includes Tom Ackerly,...

Following Barbie's huge box office success and cultural footprint, Margot Robbie – who, let's not forget, shepherded the film to screens for years as well as starring — has, thanks to that and a variety of other movies, become a powerhouse producer of tricky projects Along with her LuckyChap partners, she's now attached to help bring a film based on The Sims video games to life, with Loki's first season whizz Kate Herron aboard to co-write and direct.
The Sims was created by Will Wright (originally conceived as a satire of American consumer culture) and the first game hit shelves in 2000. A life simulator where you create characters and set them to achieving ambitions (or just going through the mundane motions), it has become hugely popular and evolved via expansion packs and sequels.
