- Elmer Layden was born on May 4, 1903 in Davenport, Iowa, USA. He was an actor, known for The Spirit of Notre Dame (1931), The Ed Sullivan Show (1948) and We, the People (1948). He was married to Edith Davis. He died on June 30, 1973 in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

- Pictured with Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, and Jim Crowley on one of fifteen 32¢ US commemorative postage stamps in the "Celebrate the Century" series, issued 28 May 1998, celebrating the 1920s. Together they were known as the "Four Horsemen of Notre Dame".
