- Inducted into the Big Band Hall of Fame in 1993.
- Lanin had a career as a bandleader spanning over 70 years. His grandfather, father, and six of his nine brothers were all bandleaders as well.

- Wrote the "Pink Petal Waltz" for the New York Junior League in 1948 a time honored piece at Debutante balls. Mothers booked him for coming out parties as soon as their daughters were born.
- Was famous for giving away 50,000 multi-colored cotton hats every year with each hat having his name emblazed on them.
- A prolific recording artist during the late 1950's and early 1960's, primarily for Epic Records, Lanin's best-selling "ballroom" albums during those years included "Lester Lanin at the Tiffany Ball," "Have Band, Will Travel," "High Society Country Style," and "Twistin' in High Society."
