James Cameron explores in detail how the Titanic sunk in his 1997 ultra-blockbuster "Titanic." It sideswiped an iceberg on its starboard side, tearing a hole in the hull. The ship began taking on water and the bow began to sink, lifting the stern into the air. The entire ship cracked in half like a Twix bar. The front half continued to sink, shooting to the ocean floor. The stern stuck was next to go, and -- because it was already half-submerged -- stuck straight up out of the water, almost vertically, like a tower. It, too, then slid beneath the waves. It took about two hours and 40 minutes for the ship to sink entirely.
Cameron compresses that sinking time into about an hour of film, careful to dramatize every detail of the ship's final moments. In the final phase of the ship's sinking -- when the stern was standing like a...

America loves biopics about its most famous musicians; 2022's "Elvis" was a smash hit that turned Austin Butler into a star (as seen by his amazing turn as Feyd-Rautha in "Dune Part Two").
If The King is a movie star, it was only a matter of time before the Boss became one — and that time is now. 20th Century Studios and Disney will be producing the first Bruce Springsteen biopic, "Deliver Me From Nowhere." The film (adapted from the 2023 book of the same title by Warren Zanes) chronicles the making of Springsteen's sixth album, 1982's "Nebraska." Biopics are generally best when they don't try to cram a subject's whole life into a couple of hours, so that's a good sign.
Scott Cooper will write and direct "Deliver Me From Nowhere." Jeremy Allen White, currently starring on "The Bear," is in talks to play Springsteen; look and energy-wise, there's no better casting in Hollywood right now.

“Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the upcoming film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s landmark 1982 “Nebraska” album, has landed at 20th Century Studios.
“The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White is in talks to star as the legendary rocker. Scott Cooper will write and direct the film, which is based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.”
“Nebraska,” the follow-up to Springsteen’s hugely successful album “The River,” was widely expected to be a rock album with the E Street Band. Instead, it was a stark solo album made on a 4-track recorder. The book and the film tell the story of Springsteen’s artistic journey in the creation of the record, which is regarded as a watershed in his musical odyssey.
The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (“The Maze Runner” trilogy) and Eric Robinson, Cooper, Zanes and Scott Stuber are producers.

Who wants to come along and ride with James Cameron on a Fantastic Voyage? During a Paris masterclass at Cinematheque Francaise showcasing the legendary filmmaker’s talent as a graphic artist, Cameron commented on his long-gestating remake of the Richard Fleischer-directed science-fiction adventure film Fantastic Voyage, saying he still plans to produce a remake of the classic cinematic gem.
“We’ve been developing it for a number of years, and we plan to go ahead with it very soon,” Cameron said about producing the remake with his friend Jon Landau. “Raquel Welch is not available, but we think we can make a pretty good movie.” In 1966’s Fantastic Voyage, a crew is shrunk and injected into the bloodstream of a comatose scientist to repair a blood clot.

Gallic cinephiles gave James Cameron a hero’s welcome at a Paris masterclass on Thursday, ushering the action auteur onstage with a reception so thunderous that it shook the filmmaker’s oft-unflappable public demeanor.
“That’s the record,” he said in between laughs and in a show of uncommon giddiness. “That’s the record for the longest applause I’ve ever had in my life. Thank you. This is a high point of my career!”
The event kicked off a new exhibition at Paris’ Cinematheque Française that positions Cameron as a graphic artist who draws inspiration from his own subconscious. Bruce Springsteen will be the subject of Deliver Me From Nowhere, a biopic from director Scott Cooper. The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is the top choice to star.
Writer and director Scott Cooper is no stranger to musical films, having written and directed the terrific 2009 drama Crazy Heart, which saw Jeff Bridges play an alcoholic country singer, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor.
Deliver Me From Nowhere, much like Bob Marley: One Love, which is still in cinemas, will focus on the creation of one iconic album, in this case Nebraska, which Springsteen made in 1982. It is often cited as his masterpiece. It was released between 1980’s The River and 1984’s Born In The USA, and Springsteen recorded it without his regular collaborators The E Street Band. Born In The USA is one of the best selling albums of all time.

Talk about Boss. A biopic about the life of Bruce Springsteen is in its early stages, IndieWire has learned, and it seems like some big names are already racing in the street to be involved.
Here’s what we know for sure: The project is being put together by lead producers Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of The Gotham Group, and they’ve got Springsteen and his manager producer Jon Landau involved in its development.
They’ve also brought Scott Stuber aboard as a producer, making the Bruce film his first project as a producer since he announced his exit as Netflix’s longtime film chief.
Beyond that, details are still being worked out and deals still need to be put in place. But another source says A24’s involvement is in talks stage. Scott Cooper, the “Crazy Heart” filmmaker, is also in talks to write the script and would direct.

Bruce Springsteen movie in the works from director Scott Cooper with Jeremy Allen White eyed to star
Isn’t it about time we had a movie about The Boss? Following rumours earlier this year, Deadline reports that Scott Cooper (The Pale Blue Eye) is set to direct a movie about Bruce Springsteen, with Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) reportedly the top choice to star. Negotiations with White haven’t yet begun, but talks are underway with A24 to make the movie.
Titled Deliver Me From Nowhere, the movie will be about “Bruce Springsteen and the long effort to put together his seminal Nebraska album, which started to take shape as he and the E Street Band were laying down tracks for his massive hit album Born in the USA.” It will be an adaptation of Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska by Warren Zanes, which was published last year.

Scott Cooper is writing to direct Deliver Me from Nowhere, a narrative feature about Bruce Springsteen and the long effort to put together his seminal 1982 album Nebraska, which started to take shape as he and the E Street Band were laying down tracks for his massive hit album Born in the USA. It’s an adaptation of the Warren Zanes book published last year.

“Oppenheimer” is the most nominated film at this year’s Oscars with 13 nominations. That’s one shy of the all-time record of 14 nominations so it missed out on Oscars history in the nomination phase.
However, Universal’s movie could match Academy Awards history in the awards phase by equalling the record of 11 Oscar wins overall. So far, three films have won 11 Academy Awards. They were “Ben-Hur” in 1960, “Titanic” in 1998, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004. Here’s the breakdown of what awards they won.
“Ben-Hur”
Best Picture — Sam Zimbalist Best Director — William Wyler Best Actor — Charlton Heston Best Supporting Actor — Hugh Griffith Best Film Editing Best Cinematography (Color) Best Music (Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture) Best Costume Design (Color) Best Art Direction-Set Decoration (Color) Best Sound Recording Best Visual Effects

James Cameron has already made plans for the sixth and seventh 'Avatar' films. The 69-year-old director has the future of the epic sci-franchise mapped out until the release of 'Avatar 5' in 2031 and revealed that he has ideas beyond that – even though he is likely to have stepped away from directorial duties by then.James told People magazine at the Saturn Awards on Sunday (04.02.24): "We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point."I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people."Cameron – whose flick 'Avatar: The Way of Water' picked up four awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles - explained that he wants the 'Avatar' franchise to match the...

James Cameron confirmed to People magazine that he already has ideas locked in for “Avatar 6” and “Avatar 7,” which would expand his record-breaking franchise well beyond the planned 2031 theatrical release of “Avatar 5.” The Oscar winner is currently in post-production on “Avatar 3” and still has around half of “Avatar 4” left to shoot. Disney has the next three “Avatar” movies on its theatrical release calendar. The future of the franchise beyond “Avatar 5” is taking shape in Cameron’s head.
“We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” Cameron told People magazine. “Mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”
It’s clear the “Avatar” franchise will continue even if Cameron is not in the director’s chair.

Released in 2009, director James Cameron’s film Avatar became the first movie to officially gross more than $2 billion. Then it took him thirteen years to get a sequel into theatres, so it wasn’t clear if the follow-up was going to be able to replicate that success. But then, sure enough, Avatar: The Way of Water also grossed more than $2 billion, paving the way for not only Avatar 3 (which is scheduled to reach theatres on December 19, 2025) but also Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 – which will be released on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031, respectively. What we know about the future sequels so far is that Avatar 3 will introduce villainous Na’vi known as the Ash People, Avatar 4 will “go nuts in a good way“ (following a six year time jump), and Avatar 5 will involve a journey to Earth. If things keep going this well as the franchise continues,...

After a strike-related delay, the Environmental Media Association held its 33rd annual awards gala on Saturday, recognizing Hollywood productions for their sustainability efforts both onscreen and behind the scenes. Avatar: The Way of Water, Extrapolations, Unstable and documentary Common Ground were among the night’s winners, with Laura Dern also being recognized with the Ema Ongoing Commitment Award for her activism in the fight against climate change.
At the event, held at Los Angeles’ Sunset Las Palmas Studios, Dern — who narrates and produced Common Ground, which follows the pioneers of the regenerative farming movement and the ways it may save the planet — began her speech by shouting out her collaborators on the film. She also praised her longtime publicist Annett Wolf and those who “walk the walk” like environmental icon Ed Begley Jr.

Sam Worthington told People magazine at the premiere of his Netflix heist thriller “Lift” that the cast of James Cameron’s “Avatar” films are gearing up to return to production in February. The director is currently deep into post-production on “Avatar 3,” which Disney has given a 2025 release date. Cameron has also shot all of the live-action scenes for “Avatar 4” that take place before a time jump in the story. The remainder of the fourth film still needs to be filmed.
“We go back to work on it in a month and it’s big,” Worthington said of the next “Avatar” films. “It’s bigger than you can imagine.”

When you think about it, "Frasier" is one of the most unlikely success stories in TV history. Running from 1993 to 2004, the show is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time and has recently returned some 20 years after it went off-air for a revival series currently streaming on Paramount+.
But a lot had to happen in order for this impressive multi-decade run to pan out. After the show on which Frasier Crane first debuted, "Cheers," almost crashed and burned during its first season, it went on to become the most celebrated sitcom of the '80s and still enjoys a legacy as one of the finest TV shows ever. In season 3 of the series, we were introduced to Dr. Crane for the first time. Shortly after the release of the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora video game, James Cameron is sharing more details about Avatar 4. Before spilling the beans about the fourth film, Cameron wants fans to know Avatar 3 is “right on track” for its December 19, 2025 release in theaters.
“We did the capture on three and the live-action photography on three as an intermingled production with [Avatar: The Way of Water], and we even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four,” Cameron told People.
Meanwhile, wheels are in motion for Avatar 4, which Cameron says includes a six-year time jump (presumably after the events of Avatar 3). “We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back,” Cameron says about the 2029 release. “And so the part where we come back is the part we haven’t shot yet.

James Cameron recently told People magazine that “Avatar 3” is “right on track” for its December 2025 release date. The film has been worked on since before the second “Avatar” movie, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” opened in theaters in December 2022 and became the third-highest grossing film in history with $2.3 billion worldwide. Cameron shot “Avatar 3” and chunks of “Avatar 4” concurrently with “The Way of Water” to ensure age continuity among his characters.

James Cameron reflected on the making of “Titanic,” the most expensive film of its time, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times for the film’s 4K remastering home video release.
The complex engineering and resources needed to create the unprecedentedly large sets and sequences contributed to the high cost of making the film.
“The scale of everything was beyond anything we could imagine in terms of our prior experience. At the time we thought, wow, there’s no way this movie could ever make its money back. It’s just impossible. Well, guess what?” Cameron said.
In an effort to keep the budget under control, producer Jon Landau said they saved $750,000 by scrapping an entire set that was planned to be canted at a three-degree angle. Instead, they stuck to two other sets — one for pre-iceberg scenes and the second one tilted at six degrees, replicating the ship sinking.

James Cameron revealed last month that he’s currently knee deep in the “very hectic” post-production of “Avatar 3.” Neither the director nor Disney is ready to unveil the title for “Avatar 3,” but it sounds like it won’t be “The Seed Bearer” as Cameron once considered.
The titles for Cameron’s “Avatar” sequels have become social media fodder ever since November 2018 when the BBC reported the four movies would have the following names: “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Avatar: The Seed Bearer,” “Avatar: The Tulkun Rider,” and “Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.”
Cameron told Entertainment Tonight in 2019: “I can neither confirm nor deny — alright, here’s what I’ll tell ya: Those titles are among titles that are in consideration. And no final decisions have been made yet.”

Veteran producer Jon Landau has been reminiscing about the 2019 manga adaptation, Alita: Battle Angel – and reckons Disney could be persuaded to make a sequel.
Some films – apparently at random – seem destined to make a far bigger splash once they’ve been out of cinemas for a few years. Alita: Battle Angel, the 2019 sci-fi action flick directed by Robert Rodriguez from James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis’ script, is certainly one of them.
Though at the time it made a reasonably healthy $405m at the box office, in the years since the adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s manga has grown a sizeable cult following. As an original, action-heavy sci-fi flick, it’s an increasingly rare beast. Like Oblivion and Edge Of Tomorrow before it, the 2010s might not have been inundated with blockbuster zippy-shooty action – but the gift of hindsight shows there’s a fair few gems that fall into the “just...

Cameron has been working in New Zealand since 2005, when the first “Avatar” movie started development.
“We’re into a very hectic two years of post-production right now,” Cameron confirmed when asked about the third “Avatar” movie. “So it will be Christmas of 2025.”

Cool Stuff: The Abyss, True Lies, And Aliens Are All Finally Getting 4K Digital And Blu-Ray Releases
The time has come! For years, fans have been waiting for director James Cameron to give "The Abyss" and "True Lies" proper high-definition releases. These two films from the "Terminator" and "Titanic" filmmaker's filmography have never been officially released on Blu-ray, let alone the higher definition 4K format. With the recent news of "The Abyss" getting a special edition 4K remaster in theaters this December, we figured that would change, and now we have the official news that's better than we could have hoped.
James Cameron's production banner Lightstorm Films has announced that "The Abyss" and "True Lies" are finally getting released in 4K Ultra HD. Basically, they're skipping right over the standard Blu-ray and getting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc releases. But before that, both movies, along with Cameron's beloved sci-fi action sequel "Aliens," will be getting 4K releases on digital a few months before they hit physical media.

There are few movies that have matched up to the acclaim and box office success of James Cameron's "Titanic." Packed with romance, suspense, drama, and big screen spectacle inspired by a historical tragedy, it's of the greatest films ever made. However, what "Titanic" has been missing is a proper release in the top high-definition format, but that changes this winter.

Producer Jon Landau says there is interest in a live-action sequel to "Alita: Battle Angel", directed by Robert Rodriguez ("From Dusk Till Dawn"), that adapts the 'manga' comics series:
"...in this action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment, set several centuries in the future, the abandoned 'Alita' (Rosa Salazar)...
"...is found in the scrapyard of 'Iron City' by 'Ido' (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic.
"When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first.
"As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, 'Hugo' (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories.

The Black Music Action Coalition called Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner’s exclusion of Black and female musicians from his upcoming book The Masters “an offensive and absurd erasure.”
The organization — which was founded in the summer of 2020 amidst the uprising against police brutality and wider reckonings with systemic racism and injustice — issued the statement after Wenner was widely criticized for comments about Black and female artists in an interview with The New York Times. In the interview, Werner said Black and female musicians “didn’t articulate at the level...

Controversial interview remarks by Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner have led to his removal from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation board of directors.
The board administrates the selections for the Hall of Fame museum. The vote to remove Wenner had just one dissenter, reportedly Bruce Springsteen manager Jon Landau.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s goal is “to promote Roll & Roll music as a cultural aspect of modern life and society.” It is separate from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. Wenner is a cofounder of the Foundation, which was started in 1983.
Wenner was removed from the board after a New York Times interview regarding his new book, The Masters, which features interviews with seven notable figures in rock music. The lineup includes Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Jerry Garcia and Pete Townsend.

Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner was removed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors after making derogatory remarks about Black and female artists.
TMZ reports that a vote was taken to remove Wenner from the Hall of Fame’s board. Bruce Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, was reportedly the lone dissenting vote.
Wenner is a co-founder of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and served as its chairman until 2020.
Earlier this week, Wenner came under fire following comments he made to the New York Times in an interview promoting his new book The Masters. Asked why only white male musicians were featured in the book, Wenner justified the lack of diversity by arguing that Black and female artists “just didn’t articulate at the level” of their white male peers.
“Insofar as the women, just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level,...
