International sales and aggregation company LevelK has boarded Danish 3D animation “Mumbo Jumbo.”
The project, which has kicked off its pre-production phase, is based on the beloved children’s book by Jakob Martin Strid (“The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear”). It will be written and directed by Karsten Kiilerich and produced by Anders Mastrup for A. Film Production.
When Mumbo Jumbo magically grows to giant size, he has to go on a dangerous journey with his three friends, to find the scary witch Baba Yaga so she can turn him small again. It is an adventurous journey which might make Mumbo Jumbo small again, but a whole lot bigger on the inside.
A. Film Production is one of Scandinavia’s most prolific animation companies with their CGI and classically animated feature films and TV series having found appreciative audiences over the past 30 years around the world. The company is...

"Catch those kids!" The Orchard has debuted an official Us trailer for an animated film from Denmark titled Up and Away, based on the Danish novel "Hodja fra Pjort". The film is about a boy named Hodja from the town of Pjort, who borrows a flying carpet to see the world. In return he has to find and return "diamond" to her grandfather. Of course, the "all-eating" Sultan wants to get his hands on Hodja's flying carpet. I'm not really sure why this is a Danish movie, as it's basically the classic Middle Eastern magic carpet story retold once again. The English language voice cast of Up and Away includes Eoin McCormick, Lucy Carolan, Marcus Lamb, Dermot Magennis, Doireann Ni Chorragain, Gary Cooke, Paul Tylak, and Susie Power. This really seems like an Aladdin ripoff, but perhaps that's the whole point - rehash the same story. Here's the official Us...

This clunky digimated version of Angela Sommer-Bodenburg’s stories favours zappy distraction over nuance
German author Angela Sommer-Bodenburg’s tales of a pint-size bloodsucker have already generated one half-term timekiller, a Europuddingy live-action adaptation of 2000, chiefly of note for being directed by Christiane F’s Uli Edel. Eighteen years on, there follows this similarly cross-continental digimation, attempting to monetise whatever brand awareness the books have among a new generation, and – more specifically – steal a commercial march on Adam Sandler’s third Hotel Transylvania offering.
Its generically designed, jerkily swaying characters are only the most visible sign we’re in the hands of algorithms, not artisans. The one boon it might offer accompanying adults is a certain pace. It takes under 80 minutes for undead Rudolph (voiced by Rasmus Hardiker) and mortal Tony (Amy Saville) to forge the friendship that sees off ruthless vamp hunter Rookery (Jim Carter). Directors Richard Claus and...
