German tenor specialized in Wagner roles. Despite his vocation of
"heldentenor", his voice was quite delicate, and perhaps more fit for
lyric and romantic roles.
After making his operatic debut in 1965, he soon became the most
popular tenor singing the Wagnerian roles at the famous Bayreuth
Festival and at all major opera houses around the world.
Although being the son and grandson of two famous composers of
classical music, he sang popular music in the beginning. His biggest
hit has been the German version of Ricky Nelson's "Helly, Mary Lou".
Father of Nathalie Kollo from his marriage with Danish singer Dorthe Kollo. He has
three children with his present wife Beatrice: Florence, Magali and
Oliver Walter.
