The streaming wars used to be all about subscriber totals. Still important, but revenue is rising on the list of executive priorities — especially for the services that haven’t yet turned a profit.
With that new topline metric top of mind, we’ve ranked the major streamers by last quarter’s revenue and included their most up-to-date subscriber tallies. It should come as no surprise that More Subscribers = More Money, but they don’t always go in lockstep. And yes, we know not every quarter is created equally for every streamer, but it’s the latest data we’ve got to go on.
IndieWire ranked the streamers from smallest to largest below, with a pair of honorable mentions at the end. One is a very significant player with very vague financial reporting.
Peacock
Revenue: #6
Subscribers: #6
With a strong final quarter, Peacock finally crossed 20 million subscribers at the end of 2022 — but it came at a price.

Peacock crossed 20 million paying subscribers in the U.S. in the final quarter of 2022, Comcast reported on Thursday morning, but the landmark number comes at a great cost.
For starters, there’s the 978 million loss in Q4’s adjusted Ebitda. Across all of 2022, Peacock absorbed a 2.5 billion loss.
Yikes, right? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. On Comcast’s post-earnings conference call, company president Michael Kavanaugh said he Peacock losses to “peak” in 2023 at 3 billion. From there they’ll “steadily improve,” he said, as the NBCUniversal streaming services continues to inch toward breakeven, and hopefully, a profit.
The media analysts at Moffett Nathanson aren’t totally sold. “Peacock’s losses remain enormous, and its path to profitability is just as hard to see as always,” they wrote in a note to investors, on Thursday, questioning whether Peacock can “ever achieve winning scale or attractive long-term margins.” (The emphasis is theirs.

The relaunch of Sydney’s Sun-Herald is to be a dramatic one, moving to an image-led, magazine style cover, Mumbrella can reveal.
The new look is revealed in a TV commercial by Whybin\Tbwa\Tequila, for the Fairfax Media tabloid exclusively obtained by Mumbrella.
The first hints that the overhaul of the Sun-Herald was to be a radical one came on Sunday when the newspaper published a teaser ad which suggested that masthead was turning blue.
It also revealed that Annabel Crabb was the new columnist.
The ad also reveals a glimpse of a new section called Unwind, along with a Travel section, Sunday Life and another supplement for which the masthead is not visible.
The relaunch follows a similar path to that of The Independent newspaper in the UK which abandoned a traditional news led cover in favour of an image led approach.

Fairfax Media’s Sunday Sydney tabloid The Sun-Herald is to launch next week with what appears to be a move from a red to blue masthead and the return of Annabel Crabb as a columnist.
The newspaper today published a cover wrap promoting next week’s relaunch which has the slogan “For your Sunday states of mind”.
It also revealed that Crabb’s new column would start next week.
Crabb left the Sydney Morning Herald for The ABC in 2009.
The revamp for the Sun-Herald comes shortly after a disappointing set of Audit Bureau of Circulations numbers which saw the paper’s sales fall the most out of any metro or national weekend title in Australia – dropping by 8.17% to 406,470.
Rival title, News Limited’s The Sunday Telegraph circulates 618,950.
Although it is not clear which section will contain Crabb’s column, the Sunday Life magazine – also inserted in the Sunday Age in...
