- Created the role of "Golde" opposite Zero Mostel's "Tevye" in the original Broadway production of "Fiddler on the Roof" in 1964.
- Won Broadway's 1965 Tony Award as Best Supporting or Featured Actress (Musical) for "Fiddler on the Roof." She also received a second Tony nomination in 1969 for "Zorba," this time as Best Actress (Musical).

She died in 2001, aged 80, from causes which have never been disclosed, survived by her husband, George S. Irving, and their children.
