Long before streaming, DVRs, and even the popularity of VCRs, there were certain shows considered appointment television. Perhaps no other series fits the description more than M*A*S*H. Fox celebrated the landmark sitcom with M*A*S*H: The Comedy That Changed Television, a reunion special executive-produced by John Scheinfeld and Andy Kaplan. The two-hour show delved into what made the beloved series about the 4077th Medical Corps on the front lines of the Korean War strike such a cord. Many of the stars and important figures from M*A*S*H reflect on its historic 11-season run, 40 years after the series finale, still the most-watched telecast in history. Among them Alan Alda (Capt. Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce), Gary Burghoff (Cpl. Walter “Radar” O’Reilly), William Christopher (Father Francis Mulcahy), Jamie Farr (Cpl./Sgt. Maxwell Q. “Max” Klinger), Mike Farrell (Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt), Wayne Rogers (Capt. “Trapper” John McIntyre) and Loretta Swit (Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips...

NATPE is saved. Brunico Communications, the Canadian company that runs the Realscreen Summit and Banff World Media Festival, has acquired the assets of the bankrupt outfit for around 150,000 and NATPE Budapest will take place as planned over the summer.
The future of the world-renowned TV industry confab had been up in the air after NATPE filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October, having cited the impact of Covid-19 while stating it planned to continue holding events. This month’s confab, however, which was meant to shift from Miami to the Bahamas, was canceled just a few weeks later. A number of events between 2020 and 2022 were shelved due to Covid-19.

Sony Pictures continues to suffer fallout from a November cyber attack. When they aren't discussing Joel McHale's interest in a discounted Sony TV, emails leaked by hackers reveal some internal scheming related to Crackle, the online video platform owned by Sony. According to a November 3rd email, Sony considered selling a majority stake in Crackle to CAA's Evolution Media Capital firm. The email in question, as first reported by Bloomberg, was sent by Crackle Gm Eric Berger to Sony Pictures Television president Steve Mosko. Berger wrote that a sale could generate funds for original programming and marketing. In a separate email, Spt president of worldwide networks Andy Kaplan laid out a more specific plan. “If we sold 51%/control at a total valuation of $200 mi, for the sake of the example, we’d bring in $100 mil in cash and probably more importantly, book a gain of something like $125 mil," he wrote.

Longtime Sony Pictures Television International president Michael Grindon will exit the company in March.
Rumors of changes at the top of the division circulated for months, and with this week's layoffs mostly in home video, the rumblings resurfaced. Ironically, the news comes as the company posted its first profit in five quarters, and mention was made of the healthy contribution from international TV.
Grindon's Spti was folded into Sony Pictures TV in March, which no doubt made the unit a target for corporate rationalization.
It appears that Grindon will not be replaced, but rather his three key lieutenants -- Keith LeGoy, who heads international program sales; Andy Kaplan, who spearheads channels abroad; and Kees Abrahams, who oversees foreign productions -- will report directly to Spt president Steve Mosko.
