There is lots of news dribbling out of Netflix today.
While we don’t have many details, we might as well get the discussion started.
Here’s what we’ve got.
Adam Sandler Revives Happy Gilmore
For fans of Adam Sandler, the movie Happy Gilmore might be one of his greatest achievements.
Golfers rarely get the movie star treatment despite the amount of money that goes to the winners, but this 1996 movie uses adversity to push him toward the big prize.
Today, Netflix announced that they’d be reviving Mr. Gilmore, but little else is known.
Should some of Happy’s old rivals return?
Christopher McDonald played Happy’s rival Shooter McGavin, and he mentioned the project in March.
Whether that means he’ll be along for the ride remains to be seen.

Netflix is making it all pretty much complicated for Knives Out 3 the production of which is set to start later this year.
Directed by Ryan Johnson once again, the third installment starring Daniel Craig as quirky yet brilliant detective Benoit Blanc will hit the streaming service just like its predecessor, Glass Onion, in 2025 earliest.
Though so far the mystery trilogy had no competitors of the same league letting itself thrive amid everyone’s wild enthusiasm, things may turn out to be very different due to Netflix’s recently announced new movie.
Having a wholly changed facade, the upcoming murder mystery film The Thursday Murder Club still shares a lot with Knives Out, even its possible release time. The movie based on Richard Osman’s novel of the same name will follow a group of elderly people lucky enough to spend the rest of their life in a sumptuous retirement village.

Continuing in the same vein as last year’s outing, London Film Festival returns for another year and is once again placing precedence on accessibility. The festival will be taking place from the 5th to the 16th of October across a variety of London-based venues, in addition to a selection of UK-wide cinemas that will be screening a portion of this year’s programme. It’s also worth noting that for those who want to enjoy the festival from the comfort of their sofa there’s also the option to watch some of the work on the BFI Player, with features screening there from the 14th to the 23rd of October and short films from the 5th October through to the 23rd.
Each year the festival adapts to the cultural climate, pushing the boundaries of what it constitutes as cinema with the inclusion of series and immersive storytelling featuring alongside...

The Toronto Film Festival is underway, the first purely in-person edition since before the Covid-19 pandemic. There are high profile premieres, including Ryan Johnson’s Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion, a number of films traveling on their awards march from Telluride and/or Venice, as well as smaller acquisition titles that are always in danger of being overlooked amidst the galas. Below are a number of films, most but not all TIFF premieres, that we’re recommending you check out, whether that recommendation is based on pre-screening or just our knowledge […]

"There are a lot of women who really like the thought of a man cleaning their house." Brainstorm Media has revealed an official US trailer for an Australian indie sex comedy called How to Please a Woman, both written and directed by filmmaker Renée Webster. The film opens later this month in a few American cities, and it also played at the 2022 Bentonville Film Festival. This looks like pure unadulterated fun! When her all-male house-cleaning business gets out of control, a mature woman must embrace her own sexuality, if she is to make a new life for herself. The film is described as "a precarious, often hilarious and revealing journey into the vulnerable world of what women really want and how hard it can be to get it right." Starring Sally Phillips as Gina, with Erik Thomson, Alexander England, Ryan Johnson, Caroline Brazier, Josh Thomson, Hayley McElhinney, and Tasma Walton.

Nat Geo’s “SharkFest” is turning 10 and marking the occasion by enlisting sister Disney brands ABC, ESPN and Hulu to help air its largest programming slate ever across the most platforms it has ever been on, Variety has learned exclusively.
While “SharkFest” aired during a six-week period last year, making the 2021 edition the longest “SharkFest” ever, that lineup was limited to Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, Disney Xd and Disney+.
This time around, Nat Geo is putting out nearly 30 hours of new content and 60 hours of “enhanced” programming over four weeks beginning July 10, its most-packed “SharkFest” schedule on record. And that increased content load is spread out not just across Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo, Disney Xd and Disney+, but also broadcast network ABC, cabler ESPN and streamer Hulu, making it an historic occasion for the decade-old fin-tastic event.

Details about George Lucas‘ unused original treatment for the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy have been as exciting as they’ve been hard to come by. Rodger Corser and Tina Bursill in ‘Doctor Doctor.’
The Nine Network has ordered a fifth season of Easy Tiger’s medical drama Doctor Doctor, a rare commission with much of the country in virtual lockdown.
Co-head of drama Andy Ryan says the broadcaster is developing a number of drama series for 2021 and 2022.
The renewal follows yesterday’s announcement by Nine Entertainment that it aims to cut costs by $266 million this calendar year as the pandemic flattens advertising revenues.
Nine said it expects to save $28 million in spending on broadcast content this year, primarily local drama and children’s programs, assuming a prolonged production shutdown.
Co-created by Easy Tiger’s Ian Collie and Tony McNamara, Doctor Doctor stars Rodger Corser as errant rural doctor Hugh Knight. Season four, which features regulars including Nicole da Silva, Ryan Johnson, Tina Bursill, Matt Castley and Miranda Tapsell, is on hiatus while Nine News screens...

Timothy Lee on location in ‘Mystery Road.’
After serving as a script editor on three seasons of House Husbands and writing episodes of Rush and Serangoon Road, Timothy Lee’s career has gone up a couple of gears.
Lee, who graduated from Aftrs in 2006, modestly credits his progression in part to the talent drain which has resulted in numerous Aussie writers plying their trade in the Us and the UK.
“That has created opportunities for the next generation of writers,” says Lee, who got his start as a script assistant/researcher on Rescue Special Ops after securing an Australian Writers’ Guild internship with Southern Star, mentored by Sarah Smith.
That led to writing episodes of the Nine Network drama and the fourth season of Network Ten’s cop show Rush. Working on Playmaker Media’s House Husbands, he reflects, “was good for my craft but not so good for my profile.

A little bit Northern Exposure and a little bit Doc Martin, The Heart Guy (Doctor Doctor in its native Australia) is another entrant in the “talented Doctor forced to tend to small town rubes” genre. Much as it may seem that we wouldn’t need another run at such a pinpoint premise, it turns out that we may need a few more, because it apparently can’t miss.
The uniqueness to the spin here is that our Australian heart surgeon, Hugh Knight (Rodger Corser), is put on the Impaired Registrants List after his party lifestyle takes an ugly turn, and he has to serve a year as a Gp in a rural area as his punishment. The kicker is that he is assigned to his own hometown, which means he gets to see a lot of his parents and his ex-girlfriend, Charlie (Nicole de Silva), who is now married to his brother,...

Freeform's Beyond is finally upon us!
This fall I had not only the pleasure of interviewing Beyond's "Holden," Berkely Duffield as well as executive producers Tim Kring (Heroes) and Adam Nussdorf (who also created the series), but to attend an exciting event with them in New York City.
The first thing you'll notice when watching the interviews is the terrible lighting.
I considered holding back the videos because of their quality.
But that would have meant denying you what I consider one of the most interesting components from a place like Nycc: chatting with someone in a group setting while they're relaxed and comfortable.
I hope you agree, and despite the lighting, enjoy getting to know Berkely Duffield, Adam Nussdorf and Time in this setting.

The 2013 Major League Soccer Season began last weekend, with Los Angeles Galaxy picking up where they left off in December.
A first career hat-trick from Mike Magee was added to by Robbie Keane as the Mls Champions cruised to a 4-0 victory over Chicago Fire. Former Chelsea and Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini made a shaky start to his league debut, almost gifting Chicago an easy goal when he failed to clear the ball properly early in the match. After that it was all Galaxy, with Magee netting his first half opener thanks to a slight deflection that took it away from goalkeeper Sean Johnson. His second was a curled effort from the edge of the box; his third a brilliant volley amid chaos following a long throw into the penalty area. Keane scored a late fourth when Omar Gonzalez nodded Michael Stephens’ cross down for him to poke home at the near post.

We finally have some news about the fate of Fairly Legal -- and it's not good. It's being reported that the USA Networks TV series has been cancelled after two seasons on the air.
Fairly Legal revolves around a young female lawyer (Sarah Shahi) who changes her profession to become a mediator at the law firm that her father founded. The cast also includes Michael Trucco, Virginia Williams, Baron Vaughn, and Ryan Johnson.
The first season registered lackluster ratings -- a 0.9 demo rating and 3.55 million total viewers -- so USA decided to revamp the show when they gave it a renewal.
Despite some cast changes and a new showrunner, Fairly Legal did even worse in its second season, garnering a 0.6 rating with 2.74 million viewers.

Romantic comedy is often a dirty phrase. But Fairly Legal star Sarah Sahahi couldn’t be happier to use the term in describing the upcoming fun that will be had on the show, which is currently two episodes into its 13-episode second season.
“I love it,” she says. “I’m all for anything that tugs on the heartstrings and anything that I can play to keep the show from being a heavy procedural and more in a romantic comedy.” The biggest factor in the shift? The arrival of new partner Ben (Ryan Johnson), who has turned Kate’s already unstable world upside down.
