- Hugh Johnson was born on April 25, 1946 in Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. He was a cinematographer and assistant director, known for The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and G.I. Jane (1997). He died on June 4, 2015 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
- In 1994, he was set to make his feature debut as a director of photography on Ridley Scott's film "Hot Zone" before it was cancelled. Instead, he shot Scott's next project, White Squall (1996).
- Began as a projectionist in the Lyric and Palace cinemas in Navan for the Kennedy family in the '60s. Subsequently moved to London, sidelining as a barman in addition to working in Kingly Photographic Studios in Soho.
- Lived with Catherine Deneuve (1982-1984).
