Lionsgate is capitalizing on its recent acquisition of 3 Arts Entertainment by setting up two multi-camera comedy series prospects for Fox from talent repped by the management-production firm.
Both projects will be co-productions with Fox Broadcasting Co. The orders for these projects and others are a sign that Fox intends to continue developing scripted series even as its parent company awaits a big transition in selling off other studio and network assets to Disney.
“Uncle Joey” stars comedian Joey Diaz as a Cuban immigrant with a troubled past who moves to an upscale suburb to raise his daughter. “King of the Hill” alums Sivert Glarum and Michael Jamin penned the script and exec produce with Diaz and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, Jonathan Berry and Josh Lieberman.
“Significant Brother” revolves around a newlywed couple whose life is changed when the brother’s estranged gay brother moves in and becomes best friend with his wife.

Fox has given a script commitment with penalty to two multi-camera semi-autobiographical comedies, Uncle Joey, toplined by comedian Joey Diaz and written by Sivert Glarum and Michael Jamin, and Significant Brother, written by Scott King (Difficult People) and Moe Jelline (You Again). Both hail from Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment, in their first broadcast development season six months after Lionsgate acquired a majority stake in the management/production company.
Written by Glarum and Jamin, Uncle Joey is inspired by the comedy of Diaz. It follows a Cuban immigrant (Diaz) with a troubled past who’s given a second chance at life when he moves his family to an upscale suburb. Intent on being the best family man possible, Joey works to raise his young daughter with old school values in today’s rapidly changing world.

You Again is one of those movies that comes along and causes audiences to scratch their collective heads at the general comings and goings of Hollywood. Written by, Moe Jelline, who according to IMDb.com may or may not actually exist, and directed by Disney's go to guy for nonsensical treasures starring The Rock, Andy Fickman, You Again is the contractual obligation film that sets the standard.
With big names, a script spat out by a random generation program, and a deep-seated need to insult your intelligence, this is a movie that manages to give "light, fluffy, family-friendly comedies" a bad name, and that's a neat trick.
We enter the film with Marnie (Kristen Bell) recounting her high school days, which apparently were made up of a never-ending stream of torment at the hands of the "pretty" girls. It turns out that, to no point whatever, Marnie is relaying this...

Here is a list of things I hate: the idea that high school is fate. Incredibly contrived romantic comedy plots. Elderly people hyper-sexualized to the point of “comedic” disgust. Hollywood’s perpetuation of the ‘beautiful jock/ugly nerd’ cliché. Ugly characters who become beautiful when they take off their glasses. Characters incapable of forgiving others for tiny past missteps. Women portrayed as deceptive irrational fools. The idea that love is the high-stakes maintenance of a series of illusions of perfection. Adults who are just hyperactive egomaniacal idiot children with credit cards. Oh, I’m sorry, I meant here is a list of things in You Again.
Now, before I begin grousing about this piece of garbage, I would like to give a big round of applause to Billy Unger. The fifteen-year-old actor absolutely kills it as the protagonist’s younger brother, Ben. I laughed, not chuckled, but laughed almost every time he appeared on screen.

Chicago – It may be a sign of my age, but I get more joy out of seeing Sigourney Weaver and Jamie Lee Curtis acting again in the mediocre “You Again” than anything to do with the generation below them in the film (Kristin Bell, Odette Yustman), recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. The sitcomish movie in which they’re featured is well below their talents but just seeing Curtis and Weaver back in the spotlight provides enough joy to keep the proceedings from sliding too far down the scale.

If only it had been Alexander Payne at the reins of this promising but botched wedding comedy, says Peter Bradshaw
A clever, perhaps even brilliant idea for a black comedy has here been slathered and stifled in a thick treacly layer of Disney-sentimental gloop. First-time screenwriter Moe Jelline probably conceived something much sharper than this, but with the help of producer-director Andy Fickman – who directed Race to Witch Mountain – Disney have turned what could have been a wicked little gem into a bland wedding comedy. The premise is great: Kristen Bell plays Marni, a bespectacled, spotty high-school loser who was brutally bulled at school by evil prom queen Joanna (Odette Yusmann); eight years later, with the encouragement of her gentle homemaker mom Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) she's lost the glasses and triumphantly survived as a babelicious, high-flying PR executive. But then she hears her brother is getting engaged to this same Joanna,...

As most people are undoubtedly aware, women make up roughly half of the world's population. Despite this fact, certain segments of society will always see fit to lump every female into a homogenous group of one-dimensional, insecurity-driven cattiness. To discourage any argument to the contrary, if any woman dares to not support another of her kind (no matter how egregious the behavior in question), she shall be sentenced to the inevitable generalization that women are always their own worst enemies and, indeed, the ultimate enforcers of misogyny.
In a sense, I'm essentially setting myself up as "the enemy," but I'm not about to defend females who continue to perpetuate the above-described myth. Furthermore, a movie like You Again -- which doesn't even reach average levels of romcom pandering but, even worse, situates itself as a Walt Disney Pictures romcom -- isn't meant to be taken seriously or considered at any...

When she's not busy being an action hero, exploring gorillas in the wild or studying the Na'vi race, Sigourney Weaver likes to dabble in comedy.

Actress Kristen Bell has been cast as the lead in Disney's comedy You Again, to be directed by Andy Fickman, who most recently directed Race to Witch Mountain. Written by Dave Johnson and Moe Jelline, You Again is about a girl who's horrified to find that her brother is marrying the very girl who made her life a living hell in high school. Yep, it's your standard Disney teenage comedy, and sadly one of my favorite actresses is going to star in it. This is Fickman's third consecutive project with Disney (he's also got Monster Attack Network lined up there, too), meaning he's got one hell of a deal and they like quite a damn bit. We last saw Kristen Bell in Fanboys and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where she stole my heart in both movies. You Again will shoot this summer, with Fickman, Eric Tannenbaum ("Two and a Half Men...

It seems like only days ago that we reported on Andy Fickman's plans to make You Again, at that time described only as a "female driven comedy". Well, now Kristen Bell has signed up to star in the film, and a few more plot details have emerged. The comedy will see Bell play a woman who's horrified to discover that her brother's fiancee is the girl who made her life a misery in high school. We're guessing she'll try to break the pair up, but maybe end up learning that people can change and it's time to let bygones be bygones. The film starts shooting this summer, based on a script by Dave Johnson and Moe Jelline. Veronica Mars fans who can't wait for this to come out can catch Bell in When In Rome late this summer, or in October in Couples' Retreat and/or Astro Boy, where she voices the female lead.
