Exclusive: Lifetime is turning another infamous real-life crime story into a TV movie with Romeo Killer: The Chris Porco Story. Matt Barr, Eric McCormack and Lolita Davidovich star in the project, inspired by the true story of Christopher Porco, who was convicted of killing his father and attempting to murder his mother. Written by Edithe Swensen and to be directed by Norma Bailey, Romeo Killer centers on beloved, handsome college student Chris Porco (Barr), who was every girl’s dream in the small town of Delmar, NY. Porco was accused of brutally murdering his father and disfiguring his mother, Joan (Davidovich), in a savage ax attack, a claim made all the more shocking when a local police detective (McCormack) believed the mother identified Chris as her attacker. What's this? New artwork for Anchor Bay's Texas Killing Fields (review here) even though the flick came out in October? Yeah, I know. It's a slow news day, though, so what the hell.
Inspired by true events, this tense and haunting thriller follows Detective Souder (Sam Worthington), a homicide detective in a small Texan town, and his partner, transplanted New York City cop Detective Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call “The Killing Fields.”
Though the swampland crime scenes are outside their jurisdiction, Detective Heigh is unable to turn his back on solving the gruesome murders. Despite his partner’s warnings, he sets out to investigate the crimes. Before long, the killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead.

Mark Harmon is the reigning king of drama on television. With NCIS in its 9th season and NCIS currently the number one drama on television, it is good to be Mark Harmon. It is fascinating that a man who is busily working on such a high profile show would find the time to jump into a made-for-tv film on another network. To answer what lured him to undertake such a challenge, Mark talked with press in a recent conference call and shed a bit of light on the appeal of Certain Prey.
What is it about Lucas Davenport in John Sandford’s book Certain Prey that attracted you to the role?
Mark: Well, he’s an interesting guy. He’s a very successful businessman who dresses nice and drives nice cars and chases the ladies, and yet what he likes more than any of it is just being a cop...

The Hollywood Reporter details AMC's plans to develop Red Mars, a new science fiction series based on the novel of the same name. Jonathan Hensleigh, writer of Armageddon and The Punisher, is on board as writer/executive producer. Michael Jaffe, Howard Braunstein, Vince Gerardis, Ralph Vicinanza and Eli Kirschner will also executive produce.
"[Red Mars] fits in with our bigger vision of wanting series that feel like cinematic one-hour movies," says Christina Wayne, AMC's senior VP of original series and miniseries. "We're always looking for big genres but to do them in slightly different ways so they feel fresh and new."
Red Mars, which AMC is touting as character-driven, is based on a 1992 novel by Kim Stanley Robinson. It chronicles the inhabitants of the first human colony on the planet. Robinson wrote two sequels to the novel, titled Green Mars and Blue Mars, as well as several short stories published in The Martians.

BERLIN -- Bankrupt German media firm KirchGroup said Wednesday that it has sold one of its last remaining assets, television production subsidiary Janus, to the company's management. Janus managing director Andreas Richter, fiction head Ivo-Alexander Beck, nonfiction boss Helmut Kastner and financial director Franz Solfrank acquired the company for an undisclosed sum in a deal with Kirch's insolvency administrator Michael Jaffe. Richter said the challenge now was to "secure Janus in the premiere league of German television producers." Munich-based Janus produces a number of series for German television, including the family-friendly sitcom "Koerner und Koeter" for Sat.1 and news magazine "Abenteuer Auto" (Automobile Adventure) for ProSieben. KirchGroup filed for bankruptcy in August 2002. In August 2003, the German media giant sold its majority stake in broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 -- its most valuable asset -- to Haim Saban.

COLOGNE -- Haim Saban's takeover of German commercial broadcasting group ProSiebenSat.1 got a further official stamp of approval Wednesday when the broadcaster named Saban and Saban Capital Group president and COO Adam Chesnoff to head ProSieben's supervisory board. Saban was named chairman of the board with Chesnoff as deputy chairman. The two were selected in a unanimous vote by ProSieben board members, the company said. Saban takes over from Michael Jaffe, the insolvency lawyer who was named temporary board chairman following the bankruptcy of ProSieben parent KirchGroup. A further shuffle is expected on ProSieben's board as Saban puts his stamp on the German group he acquired earlier this month. Saban Capital Group has said, in addition to Chesnoff, Saban also plans to appoint his brother Arieh Saban, former Fox Kids Europe head and Saban Capital director Ynon Kriez, and media consultant Ron Kenan to the board. Saban currently controls 72% of the voting shares in ProSiebenSat.1. He is expected to soon sign a deal to buy a further 16.5% of the broadcaster currently held in a joint venture between Kirch Media and German publisher Axel Springer. Separately, Springer controls an additional 11.5% in ProSiebenSat.1. Despite the supervisory board shuffle, Saban has expressed confidence in ProSiebenSat.1's executive board led by company CEO Urs Rohner.

NBC has given the green light to 10.5, a four-hour miniseries about a deadly earthquake hitting the West Coast. The plot of the mini, from Jaffe/Braunstein Films and Pearl Pictures, centers on a gifted female seismologist at the University of Washington. When an earthquake in the Northwest triggers a series of shakes of increasing magnitude, she warns that the quakes are interrelated, a likely precursor to a big one, but her theory is met with skepticism. She is proven right as the tremors get worse and massive evacuations as well as a plan to use nuclear warheads are put into action. John Lafia (Man's Best Friend), Ronnie Christensen and Walker, Texas Ranger creator Christopher Canaan penned the script for the mini, which Lafia will direct. Gary Pearl (Liberty Stands Still) is executive producing the project, with Michael Jaffe and Howard Braunstein (NBC's Martha, Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart) co-executive producing. Filming is scheduled to begin in June in Vancouver.
