The tumultuousness of turning thirty is a definitive moment in many people’s lives but it is one often not discussed as much as the burgeoning freedom of your twenties or the existential reckoning of your forties. Filmmaker Tom Gentle captures the essence of this unnoticed period in his comedy drama Close, which takes a look at a couple who find themselves questioning their decisions whilst being trapped outside of their flat in a looming stairwell. The three day strand (28 Feb - 2 March) will be highlighted by talks from producer Andrew Macdonald (Trainspotting, T2: Trainspotting, Shallow Grave) and Us casting director Kerry Barden (Spotlight, Pitch Perfect).
The 2018 event will also address the recent revelations regarding sexual harassment in the business and wider industry working practices. Bafta Scotland will look at the urgency of redressing the gender imbalance in film and TV and examine practical solutions to improve access, career development and representation, whilst Women in Film & Television will explore the issue of sexual harassment in the UK industry in a panel chaired by Kate Kinninmont MBE, chief executive of Wftv with guests including cinematographer Nicola Daley and casting director Simone Pereira Hind.

The Edinbugh International Film Festival (Eiff) has unveiled the line-up of industry events set to take place alongside this year’s festival.
Nine days of events will be held at the Eiff Delegate Centre at the Traverse Theatre from June 18.
Topics to be discussed will range from development and financing through to exhibition and sustainability.
There will be a number of events aimed at offering support and advice to emerging writers, directors and producers including two sessions hosted by partners of the BFI Net.Work looking at progressing from shorts to features.
Representatives from Creative England, Film London and the Scottish Film Talent Network will take part in the events including an opportunity for filmmakers to practice their feature pitch to get feedback on making their future applications stronger.
