Helmers Laurent Cantet, Gaspar Noe, Pablo Trapero, Elia Suleiman, Julio Medem, Cuba's Juan Carlos Tabio and Benicio del Toro are joining perhaps one of the rare omnibus projects worth mentioning. Finally a short film collage that is a bit more organic, 7 Days in Havana is said to be an inside "view of Cuba, introducing audiences to an eclectic young Havana and its music scene." The project will be produced by Morena Films' Alvaro Longoria, Fabien Pisani, Domehri, and Full House's Gael Nouaille and Laurent Baudens. Variety reports that "Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura will coordinate screenplays, co-writing Medem's and Tabio's films. Madrid -- Meryl Streep and Antonio Banderas will receive Donostia lifetime achievement awards at this year's San Sebastian International Film Festival, organizers said Friday.
Local hero Banderas will pick up his award Sept. 19, one night after presenting the European premiere of Richard Eyre's "The Other Man" at the opening night ceremony. The festival will honor Streep on Sept. 26.
Jonathan Demme will chair the official jury, which awards the non-cash Gold Shell along with the other prizes in the festival's main competition. Demme is joined by German cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, Argentine producer Martina Gusman Urruti, Japanese actor-director Masato Harada, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, English-Italian director Clare Peploe and Spanish actress Leonor Watling.
Chinese multihyphenate Joan Chen will head the Altadis New Directors Jury, which awards the coveted 90,000 euros ($128,000) award to be split between the director and the Spanish distributor of the film.

A host of both Asian and Spanish-language films have been announced as part of the Toronto International Film Festival 08 lineup and they are scattered over all different parts of the program. Anime fans will be glad to hear Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers will be having it's North American premier in the Visions section. Plastic City, the joint Brazilian/China effort about the mafia and salvation will also be getting it's North American prem. One of the most interesting sounding film's on the list is Albert Serra's Birdsong (El Cant dels ocells) which is a reinterpretation of the biblical journey of the three wisemen and their search for the Messiah.
