Exclusive: Roland Emmerich is heading to next month’s Mipcom Cannes to present first-look footage from upcoming Gladiator epic Those About to Die.
AGC Studios and High End Productions will host an invite-only presentation on the first afternoon of the mid-October market, showcasing the footage along with a Q&a with the Godzilla auteur.
The $150M Anthony Hopkins-starring series will launch on Peacock in the U.S. later next year but AGC boss Stuart Ford recently told Deadline the producers eschewed a “worldwide streamer type deal” when putting together the financial package. Prime Video has bought the show in a wealth of European nations and the free TV rights outside the exclusive distribution window are still being negotiated with various licensees across Europe, according to Constantin Film in August. Principal photography is nearly complete at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios and the show, which falls outside of SAG-AFTRA strike restrictions,...

WGA West board members have reversed course and no longer plan to give the Valentine Davies Award to former president Victoria Riskin, the guild said Tuesday. The board Monday night voted 11-3, with one abstention, to rescind the award to Riskin, who was forced to resign as president in January 2004 after it was discovered that she had not been eligible to run in the election. She was replaced by Charles Holland, who was forced to step down two months later over claims he made about his background, setting the stage for current president Dan Petrie Jr. to prevail in a contest supervised by the California Department of Labor.

WGA West president Charles Holland resigned Thursday to defuse the controversy over his credibility as the guild heads into crucial contract negotiations with the studios. Holland was succeeded by vp Daniel Petrie Jr., who was president from 1997-99. Holland was under fire because of media reports challenging his claims that he served in the Army Special Forces and played football on a scholarship at the University of Illinois. "On the eve of negotiations, I have no choice but to remove myself and clear the air for the only issue that matters -- the best possible deal for the benefit of the most possible writers," Holland said. "As committed as I am to fulfilling my responsibilities and to standing up for myself, the guild is more important than one man."...
