San Francisco, Dec 1 (Ians) A team of researchers has discovered at least two new minerals in a 15-tonne meteorite in Somalia — the ninth largest meteorite ever discovered.
According to Forbes, the two newly-discovered minerals have been named ‘Elaliite’ and ‘Elkinstantonite’.
“Whenever you find a new mineral, it means that the actual geological conditions and the chemistry of the rock are different than what’s been found before,” Chris Herd, professor at the Canada-based University of Alberta’s Meteorite Collection, was quoted as saying.
“That’s what makes this exciting. In this particular meteorite, you have two officially described minerals that are new to science,” he added.
The two minerals discovered came from a single 70 gm slice that was sent to the university for classification, and a potential third mineral is already being considered.
While Herd was analysing the meteorite to classify it, he noticed something that caught his interest, according to the report.

Producer Steve Jaggi is convinced audiences are hankering for films with positive, joyful themes, an antidote to the dark subjects often favoured by filmmakers.
Putting his money where his mouth is, Jaggi launched The Incubator last year through his Indefatigable Pictures banner to develop and produce life-affirming films.
The first three projects to benefit from that initiative are either completed or in post. All are from first-time filmmakers, part of Jaggi.s plan to help foster the international careers of Australian creatives.
Based on a true story, Skin Deep is the saga of a young woman who is diagnosed with terminal melanoma and meets a stranger who gives her the courage to embrace life. The screenplay is by Monica Zanetti, who had melanoma. Rosie Lourde is the producer and the director is Jonnie Leahy. Zara Zoe plays the protagonist and Zanetti portrays the stranger.

Two teams who will both be desperate to get off to a positive start in the 2013/14 Premier League season – Arsenal and Aston Villa. Arsene Wenger will be hoping or even expecting a win in order to ease pressure that has built on him and the clubs hierarchy recently due to the lack of transfer activity completed by the North London outfit. Paul Lambert’s men however will not be under a huge amount of pressure in this game as they go into it as the underdogs, however will be hoping to get something out of the game due to their testing early fixtures.
The two games between the clubs last season were very close affairs, with Aston Villa earning a hard fought 0-0 draw in their home leg, and with Arsenal narrowly defeating the Midland club 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium – thanks to a late goal from the midfield maestro...

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has resumed training and could feature against Southampton following a seven-week layoff with a calf injury.
Midfieler’s Ashley Westwood and Brett Holman definitely return, however Darren Bent, Marc Albrighton and Chris Herd are out and Shay Given (hamstring) is a doubt.

Aston Villa currently sit one point and one place above today’s visitors and both are hovering just above the relegation zone so three points is imperative for either side. But Paul Lambert’s Villa go into this encounter short on confidence after the most surprising of defeats to League Two side Bradford in midweek.

Chelsea absolutely hammered Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League this afternoon as they ran out 8-0 winners at Stamford Bridge. Goals from; Fernando Torres, David Luiz, Bransilav Ivanovic, Frank Lampard, Ramires (2), Oscar and Eden Hazard, sealed the victory as Villa were dominated.
Despite the heavy score line, the Aston Villa players didn’t do too much wrong individually. The way the two teams lined-up – Chelsea playing 4-2-3-1 and Villa playing 5-3-2 – seemed to put Villa on the back foot from the very start. Paul Lambert had decided to stick with the same team that beat Liverpool last week and this seems to have cost him as a tactical change could have resulted in a different result. The score line was also surprising as Villa had went into the match in good form having gone five leagues matches without defeat. Although only two of those were wins...

Tottenham Hotspur know that two wins in their final two games of the season will see them finish third with guaranteed Champions League football for next season. Thanks to Arsenal slipping up yesterday, they would finish above The Gunners with two wins and above Newcastle United on goal difference if they were to win their two games also, and would not need to rely on Chelsea losing in Munich for fourth place to qualify.

Match preview ahead of Aston Villa vs Bolton Wanderers tonight in the Premier League. Kick-off time is at 7.45pm.
The very definition of a six pointer. Aston Villa currently sit five points above the relegation zone but should they lose to Bolton Alex McLeish’s team will only be three points above the Wanderers, having played a game more. What is more, their rivals for survival are all entering relative good periods of form. Wigan have picked up the scalps of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks, Qpr have four in a row at home, Blackburn picked up a vital win and Bolton have games in hand on all those teams above them.
After this game Villa face a midlands derby at West Brom, host a struggling Tottenham that nevertheless is full of quality, and a final day trip to Norwich which could go either way. If Villa...

Following Saturday’s tumultuous affair at Old Trafford, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will no doubt be hoping his side can wrestle top spot in the Premier League back from their Manchester rivals with an away victory over Aston Villa.
With City lying one point behind leaders Manchester United, Mancini’s men have the chance to restore a two point cushion at the top of the division against an Aston Villa side that has struggled for form all season.
Alex McLeish’s side’s league position is far from impressive given the club were pushing for European places just a couple of season’s ago. The good news for the home team is that there is a seven point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone and their fans will be looking to move up the table rather than down it. An unlikely victory today would see them climb as high as 11th place.

Team news ahead of Arsenal’s Fa Cup Fourth Round match against Aston Villa at the Emirates.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will assess Thierry Henry with a late fitness test to see if he can take part. Meanwhile Carl Jenkinson (back), Abou Diaby (hamstring) and Andre Santos (ankle) all miss out with long term problems and strikers Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh are away on African Cup of Nations duty.

The tightly packed run of festive fixtures come to an end this week and Aston Villa will be hoping to continue the momentum of their 3-1 win over Chelsea against shaky away opposition in the form of Swansea to break their home form hoodoo of late.
However whilst they possess the worst away record in the league, Swansea will be coming off the back of a very impressive performance against Tottenham. Brendan Rodgers will no doubt want his team to emulate that performance to possibly get the better of their opponents for their first win on the road to start 2012 with a bang.
The teams met less than a month and a half ago at the Liberty Stadium where they fought out to a 0 – 0 draw but it could be a much different result this time around.

After Fortress Liberty was breached by Sir Alex and his merry Reds last weekend, will Aston Villa be able to continue the pressure? Or will the Swans return to their dependable home form in today’s 1.30 kick off?
Manager Brendan Rodgers refused to blame the culprit that gifted United their only goal of the game, Angel Rangel, insisting that their stylish style of play will create these opportunities for teams, so there’s no doubt that the team will be putting on another passing masterclass for the TV cameras again.

Harry Redknapp’s return to the dugout was a happy one as his side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over a poor Aston Villa side and moved up to third in the table.
Two first- half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor were enough for the North London club in a match they dominated from start to finish.
Alex McLeish looked to have set up his side to contain Tottenham, naming five defenders in his starting eleven. Alan Hutton began on the right of midfield, presumably in an attempt to suppress Gareth Bale, but as Tottenham’s attacking players began to come to the fore Villa started to slip into a 5-4-1 formation with Gabriel Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey both playing much deeper roles than they are used to.
Redknapp named the same side for his third match in a row and on this performance you can see why.

A thrilling Midlands derby took place on Saturday afternoon as West Brom travelled to Villa Park looking to end a 32 year wait for a victory at Villa. And they managed to trash that fact as Hodgson’s side beat their opponents 2-1.
Aston Villa started the game well and pressed Albion up the pitch. Darren Bent had a early shot that blazed over Ben Foster’s bar. An early scare for the visitors. Moments later, Scotland playmaker Barry Bannan went for goal but his shot curled just wide.
Shane Long had to limp off as a result of a malicious Alan Hutton challenge. The Irishman, who already has three goals so far this term, is set to be out for quite a while and...

Wolves spent the second 45 minutes of this game clinging on for dear life as Aston Villa threw everything they had at Mick McCarthy’s men, to no avail. In a game with relatively few on chances on target, it was the Villans who took the game by the scruff of the neck, testing Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal a few times, but nowhere near as much as Alex McLeish would have liked. Wanderers held on for a good point however, moving up to the top of the table in the process for the second time in two weeks.
It is testament to the erratic nature of the opening weeks of the Premier League that this derby, usually a mid table affair, was contested by two teams in the top four; Wolves and Aston Villa starting the game in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
