- Made Picture Bride (1994) originally as a film project while attending the UCLA film school. It was only supposed to be a short film, but decided that the story was too important to limit it to a short.
- Was in talks to direct the Ethan Hawke film, Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), but lost out to director Scott Hicks.
- Was member of the dramatic jury at the Sundance Film Festival in 1998.
