- On 6 January 2004, the Kalamazoo County (Michigan, USA) medical examiner announced that post-mortem toxicology results indicated that Hatfield's heart attack was caused by acute cocaine intoxication, not by advanced coronary disease, as an initial autopsy had found. Hatfield's death certificate will be amended accordingly, the medical examiner said.
