- He presents shows on BBC Radio 2 ("Bob Harris Show" on Saturdays and "Bob Harris Country" on Thursdays) and he was one of the original presenters on BBC 6 Music.

- In 2003 he received the Radio Academy/PRS award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Music Radio'.
- John Thomson admitted that his character Louis Balfour in The Fast Show (1994) was conceived as a cross between Bob and the actor Roger Moore.
- He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honors List for his services to Music Broadcasting. He is a radio presenter.
