How does Hollywood sell a gritty, realistic western? With a sexy shot of star Tina Louise! Viewers will be surprised: this fine western is a showcase for the elemental ruthlessness we associate with director André de Toth — its convincing snowbound setting is so intense, we can almost feel the cold. Slick writer Philip Yordan sets up an impossible conflict as a blizzard moves in on a tiny town… Robert Ryan must sort out his feelings for the town beauty Tina Louise, as he negotiates with the he-boss of the killer crooks, Burl Ives. It looks as if Ryan has no choice but to volunteer for a suicide journey — but nature has the last word.

Glenda Farrell: Actress has her ‘Summer Under the Stars’ day Scene-stealer Glenda Farrell is Turner Classic Movies’ "Summer Under the Stars" star today, August 29, 2013. A reliable — and very busy — Warner Bros. contract player in the ’30s, the sharp, energetic, fast-talking blonde actress was featured in more than fifty films at the studio from 1931 to 1939. Note: This particular Glenda Farrell has nothing in common with the One Tree Hill character played by Amber Wallace in the television series. The Glenda Farrell / One Tree Hill name connection seems to have been a mere coincidence. (Photo: Glenda Farrell as Torchy Blane in Smart Blonde.) Back to Warners’ Glenda Farrell: TCM is currently showing Torchy Runs for Mayor (1939), one of the seven B movies starring Farrell as intrepid reporter Torchy Blane. Major suspense: Will Torchy win the election? She should. No city would ever go bankrupt with Torchy at the helm. Glenda Farrell...

It seems like once a month I get all excited about a Neil Gaiman project getting developed, but most of them never make it. I think it’s because his vision is just so unique things get expensive fast. But now that Tom Hanks’ company is developing American Gods as a series for HBO, I think this one has a chance.
Reader kimiwhit sent me this story about a volleyball player in Brazil who was subjected to homophobic taunts during an away game. He eventually came out publicly, but it's what happened next that’s so awesome. His team wore pink warm-ups , and the home crowd at the next game unfurled a massive banner and waved pink thundersticks the whole game. And I’m not sure what a “librero” is, but theirs donned a rainbow jersey in support. The pictures are awesome.
I know there’s nothing explicitly gay, but...

The hilarious and hot Whitney Cummings, named the "Comedy Star of Tomorrow" by Entertainment Weekly, is giving viewers the "Money Shot" with her new one-hour stand-up special on Comedy Central, "Whitney Cummings: Money Shot."
Cummings, a regular on "Chelsea Lately" and who appeared recently on "The Comedians of Chelsea Lately" and Dane Cook's "Isolated Incident" tour, has plenty of buzz surrounding her. Besides EW singing her praises, she's also this year's "Comedian of the Year" at the Young Hollywood Awards.
Her special, taped at Washington D.C.'s Sidney Harmon Hall, features Cummings' take on everything from bedroom bondage, to romance with vampires, to porn and the Food Network. She even covers "emotional ninja" tactics used by women all over.
Before her one-hour special airs, she'll also appear on stage to roast David Hasselhoff during the "Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff" on August 15th. She also appeared to roast Joan Rivers last year.
