Hanna was knighted in 1970 by the government of Liberia, in recognition
of benefit concerts he had performed in the African nation. Thereafter,
he insisted on being billed as "Sir Roland Hanna."
Considered one of the leading exponents of the so-called Detroit school
of jazz piano.
