Ratings were continuing to climb for the 96th annual Oscars that took place March 12, especially following the all-time lows of the pandemic years. With Jimmy Kimmel returning for his fourth stint as host and second in a row, reviews were upbeat for the most part and the show benefited from a good movie year with blockbusters like Barbie and Best Picture winner Oppenheimer.

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

From Billie Eilish’s heartrending performance to John Cena’s beefcake cameo, the 96th Academy Awards served up some pretty terrific moments and more than a few surprises.
Here were the highlights — and lowlights — from Sunday’s telecast on ABC.
Great Moment when members of Osage Nation walked the red carpet. Like the costumes we saw in Killers of the Flower Moon, their Indigenous attire was both extravagant and gorgeous.
Surprise how the show started five minutes late because some attendees still hadn’t made it into the theater. Arrivals has been complicated by the security measures meant to keep pro-Palestinian protesters at a distance, and that led to “hundreds of people” getting stuck outside the entrance.
Pro-Palestinian protesters in Hollywood, CA ahead of 96th Oscars
Snub delayed for Greta Gerwig and how she didn’t get a nomination for Best Director.

Emmy Award winner Jimmy Kimmel returns for the fourth time to host the biggest night in cinema. And he kicks off the event by poking fun at many things about Hollywood. Congratulating the audience for “making it on time,” the host in his monologue poked fun at Madame Web, the recent box office failure. And that was just one of many.

The late-night host took his seat alongside fellow four-time emcees Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon, who have also hosted the Oscars four times. Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, and Bob Hope are the only names who have hosted more than Kimmel, Goldberg, and Lemmon.
From joking about Christopher Nolan’s p*rn addiction to Robert Downey Jr.’s manhood, it’s a usual day for Jimmy Kimmel.

ABC, which has begun to use the Oscars as a lead-out to showcase its top programming, will follow its coverage of the live ceremony with an original episode of Abbott Elementary. The earlier start time will likely bring more eyeballs to Abbott than what ABC could get for previous post-Oscar programs, most recently American Idol earlier this year.

Updated with details: Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the 96th Academy Awards, ABC has confirmed, marking the fourth time and second straight year that the Jimmy Kimmel Live! mainstay has taken the gig. The ceremony is March 10 on the Disney-owned network.
“I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” Kimmel joked in a statement.
Along with emceeing Hollywood’s Biggest Night this past March, he also hosted in 2017 and 2018. After the latter show drew then-record low ratings, the broadcast went hostless in 2019, 2020, and 2021, when the Oscars were heavily pandemic-affected and stripped down, drawing the lowest ratings ever.
Kimmel is a double Emmy winner and 20-time nominee, including noms for all three of his previous Academy Award gigs. He also is the answer to a unique Oscar trivia question: He presided over the infamous “envelope-gate” show in 2017, when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were handed the wrong envelope...

Emmy Award winner Jimmy Kimmel is back as the host for the upcoming 2024 Oscars ceremony, marking the late-night star’s fourth time fronting the show. Emmy nominee Molly McNearney will also return to serve as an executive producer for the second consecutive year in a row.
The “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host previously led the 2017, 2018 and 2023 telecasts. The 2017 ceremony produced the now infamous “La La Land” and “Moonlight” best picture screw-up. Kimmel will now sit alongside other four-peaters such as Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. The only people to host more times are Johnny Carson (5), Billy Crystal (9) and Bob Hope (11).
“I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times,” said Kimmel in a statement. McNearney adding that she’s “especially honored to be part of the Oscars team this year.”

Hollywood still has a bit of work to do before the 2024 Oscars are actually within grasp, but the Academy and telecast partner ABC just cleared a few of the annual hurdles to ensure a live show — setting a producing team, a returning director and a first-time showrunner.
Live TV and go-to Las Vegas residency producer Raj Kapoor, who’s worked on the Academy Awards telecast for the last seven years, has been named showrunner and executive producer for the first time. He assumes the role after collecting a sprawling list of TV credits, including work on the Grammys, the Emmys and quite a few Disney-branded live celebrations.

Grammy-winning superstar Usher is set to headline the 2024 Apple Music Super Bowl Lviii halftime show.
The NFL, Roc Nation and Apple Music made the announcement on Sunday. The big game will take place on Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, just outside of Las Vegas. It will air live on CBS.
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said in a statement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
This will mark Usher’s second Super Bowl appearance. He performed — and saved the day — alongside the Black Eyed Peas when the pop group headlined the game in 2011.

Five years after scoring back-to-back Emmy wins for helming the 89th and 90th Oscars, Glenn Weiss could clinch his fifth Best Variety Special Directing trophy for his work on the latest Academy Awards ceremony. Given the knowledge that Jimmy Kimmel hosted said two 2010s Oscars events as well as the one Weiss is currently nominated for, a majority of Gold Derby’s Emmy predictors expect history to simply repeat itself, and they are wise to think so.
Weiss’s most formidable challengers in this contest are producing Emmy winner Jay-Z and seven-time directing nominee Hamish Hamilton, who are recognized for conducting Rihanna’s halftime performance at the most recent Super Bowl. Also in the mix are the directors of the stand-up specials “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” and “Wanda Sykes: I’m an Entertainer” and the career retrospective “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love.”
