I think I need to brush up on my eighties horror knowledge and film watching because I realised when I had the chance to watch Nightmares In A Damaged Brain that I had barely even heard about it and had no idea what the movie was actually about. In fact, outside of the big hitters I haven’t watched as many as I should have, and the ‘video nasties’ are a good place to start.
For those that somehow don’t know the video nasty era in Britain was a period of time when films were banned, often copies destroyed and occasionally people who sold or released the films were imprisoned (it was a crazy time and the...

Writer/director Romano Scavolini’s 1981 film Nightmare, a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, stirred up a lot of controversy when it was released. It was given an X rating in the US, banned as a video nasty in the UK, and a couple distribution executives did prison time for putting the film out in the UK. Plus special effects legend Tom Savini, who is credited on the film, denied having any involvement with it. And now Severin Films is honoring the movie with a three disc 4K Uhd release! Copies will be available for pre-order on the Severin webstore when their summer sale launches this Friday.
Rue Morgue reports that Nightmares in a Damaged Brain “will be presented in a never-before-seen 4K 1.85:1 scan of the most complete version ever assembled. The region-free discs will come packaged in a limited-edition slipcover with reversible wrap, plus a booklet written...

The controversial 1981 horror movie Nightmare – also known as Nightmares in a Damaged Brain – is coming back to life on 4K Uhd from Severin Films, Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report this afternoon. The film has been scanned from the internegative and various foreign print sources to create the most complete version ever assembled!
Severin is also publishing a 193 page novelization of the film, written by Rue Morgue’s Michael Gingold, based on the original screenplay by Romano Scavolini.
It’s been called “graphic and unapologetic” (SexGoreMutants), “brutally effective” (Screen Rant) and “a forgotten classic” (Horror News). It remains the most reviled, controversial and misunderstood genre film of the ‘80s. Now “the most repulsive, degrading and horrifying movie ever made” (NY Daily News) can be experienced like never before.

Back in the '80s and early-'90s, Linnea Quigley ruled the horror scream queen scene. When she wasn't starring in films like Night of the Demons or Return of the Living Dead, she was doing oddball efforts like Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout. Some of us still own this on VHS, however, it's making its way to DVD for the first time. It's up for pre-sale now with copies shipping April 11th.
Directed by Kenneth J. Hall and starring Quigley, the workout tape was originally released in 1990 and features special effects from Cleve Hall (TV’s "Monster Man"). A campy, gory parody of the workout videos of the '80s, the film was created to capitalize on Quigley’s explosive popularity and rabid fan base. In it, Quigley teaches a bevy of big-haired, lingerie-clad beauties the proper way to tone and stretch, while a masked killer stalks them one by one.

With other companies making waves releasing cult horror films on Blu-ray, it's no surprise Code Red DVD is getting in on the trend by bringing Nail Gun Massacre, Just Before Dawn, and The Electric Chair to hi-def.
Code Red announced on its blog that the company's first foray into Blu-ray will be the 1974 obscurity The Electric Chair. I’m not even familiar with this one. Are you? If so, you might be excited to hear a 97-minute cut of the film will be coming to a loaded Blu-ray to be hosted by former WWE diva Maria Kanellis and TV’s “Monster Man” Cleve Hall.
Following that will be the notorious 1985 splatterfest Nail Gun Massacre, about members of a construction crew that gang-rape a young woman and then begin getting brutally killed off by a mysterious maniac wielding a nail gun. Code Red promises another loaded disc boasting both a brand...

Special Effects Artist Robert Kurtzman recently opened the doors to the Kurtzman Institute of Art, a school where students learn the fine art of F/X. Kurtzman has now announced the list of guest speakers and special in-class guests who will be visiting the school, and it's pretty mpressive.
According to the Kurtzman Institute of Art website, "The facility gives students first-hand access to decades of genuine Hollywood experience. With classes lead by top-notch instructors with proven experience, students can get on the fast track to success in film, television, amusement, and many other creative industries. In addition, students get real world experience, working alongside respected professionals, in a fully functional film and effects studio during the course of their instruction, providing a truly unique educational experience."
Among those whom students can count on learning from this year are: Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Andrew Divoff (Wishmaster), Don Coscarelli (Phantasm,...

What is up Fiends! It's another great day as the darkness looms overhead! I feel like taking my black carriage out for a spin to haunt the locals! But first, I wanted to let you all in on this week's episode of The Dungeon!
This week we had the badass as well as beautiful, Patricia Tallman visiting the show. Genre geeks the world over know her from Army Of Darkness, "Babylon Five", "Star Trek", and of course, the gun totin' model of Barbara in the excellent 1990's remake of Night Of The Living Dead!
I was joined by my "Terror Team" of Hollywood F/X Master, Thomas Surprenant as well as the lovely "Demoness" Apocalypse Amy Lynes. The entire team was accounted for after all the undead hi-jinks that occurred last week. Also joining us as a special guest co-host is yje co-writer/director of Night Of The Living Dead 2012, my horrorpunk brother,...
