Dark Star Pictures have released supernatural sasquatch horror Summoning The Spirit on Digital and DVD.
The film, written by Jon Garcia and Zach Carter and directed by Garcia, premiered to rave reviews at the Miami Film Festival with outlets calling the film “captivating” (Film Factual), saying it “revels in its atmosphere and it is thick with paranoia” (Reel Reviews); further, Blair Witch Project producer Greg Hale says of the film, “Sts is a great addition to the sub-sub-genre of Bigfoot horror. The film turns convention on its head with a fresh take on Sasquatch while still delivering on the fun and the scares.”
Summoning The Spirit follows Carla (Krystal Millie Valdes) and Dean as they decide to escape the hustle of the big city, purchasing a home in the remote forest. They have big plans for their new quiet life, only to find something much more sinister. The couple quickly...

Quibi, the Jeffrey Katzenberg-backed 2020-launching streaming platform designed for short-form stories, has announced a most intriguing offering amongst its deep backlog, a horror anthology series, titled 50 States of Fright, which has corralled quite the cast and crew, notably with genre legend Sam Raimi–the movie maestro of the Evil Dead cinematic and television franchise and crucial comic book cinema of the Spider-Man Trilogy–tapped to develop and even direct an entry.
Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel, Christina Ricci, Asa Butterfield, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, John Marshall Jones and Ron Livingston are just some of the names lined up to fill 50 States of Fright’s anthology episodes. While I’m not really sold on the upcoming short-form streaming service Quibi, there’s a lot of big talent on board to create the series that will fill it with content.
Sam Raimi is producing one of the shows for it called 50 States of Fright, a horror anthology series that will feature a great cast of talent that includes Christina Ricci, Rachel Brosnahan, Travis Fimmel, Jacob Batalon, Ming-Na Wen, Taissa Farmiga, Asa Butterfield, John Marshall Jones, and Ron Livingston.
The series will focus on urban legends that come from specific states. When talking about the series, Gunpowder and Sky CEO Van Toffler told THR:

The annual horror anthology is back to instill more devastating terror (and possible motion sickness).
Last Halloween, we recommended that the "found footage" horror anthology V/H/S be added to your horror movie watching list for the month just as it was about to debut in theaters in limited release. A sequel was announced as being in the works in November and, already has made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival.
According to one critic, S-v/H/S is "an incredible, exciting step forward" from the original, while another exclaimed that the sequel was a "leaner, but totally crazier, gorier, scarier, wilder, funnier follow-up."

The sequel to the 2012 horror anthology V/H/S, S-vhs will hit theaters this year, but will first have its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19 as part of the fest's midnight programming. Today we have the first teaser trailer for the film along with the following synopsis: Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static-white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil. Segments of the film were directed by Gareth Evans, Timo Tjahjanto, Eduardo Sanchez, Adam Wingard, Simon Barret, Jason Eisener and Greg Hale. Check out the teaser below and I have...

The quickly turned around sequel to this year's raw, found footage anthology V/H/S is one of the major titles. Boasting a stellar directing roster (Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett, Jason Eisener, Eduardo Sanchez Greg Hale and Gareth Evans Timo Tjahjanto), the film's main crux, as well two new images have hit.
Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his abandoned house and find another collection of mysterious VHS tapes. In viewing the horrific contents of each cassette, they realize there may be terrifying motives behind the student’s disappearance.
Next comes something rare: a remake to look forward to. Adapting Jorge Michel Grau's fantastic We Are What We Are—certainly universal in its themes of devastating poverty and familial conflict—Jim Mickle and Nick Damici bring the tale to upstate New York where a devastating storm washes up clues that lead authorities closer and closer to the cannibalistic Parker family.

Only recently did I finally see V/H/S, a horror film fans of the genre need to be sure and see. The story revolves around a group of guys hired to retrieve a videotape from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere. When they get there they find several along with a dead body plopped in front of several televisions. In their search for the tape they are looking for they begin watching several of the tapes strewn about and while the story of their search plays out a series of horrific videos take center stage. Like any found footage feature, the questions of "Why are they still recording this?" comes up, and perhaps more often than most would like, but V/H/S was highly effective and not at all what I expected. I expected a series of snuff films (a la Hostel) and to me that didn't sound too interesting.

V/H/S was one of the best horror films of 2012 – and after an impressive run through various VOD services (and a DVD release scheduled for next month) it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that we’re getting a sequel. Today, we’ve learned the title and gotten our first look at a bloody new still for the upcoming anthology feature. The new installment will be titled S-vhs and will feature contributions from Gareth Evans, Timo Tjahjanto, Eduardo Sanchez (codirecting with Greg Hale), Jason Eisener, Adam Wingard, and Simon Barrett making his directorial debut. No word yet on what any of the stories will be about for this outing, but our friends at Twitch have scored the first exclusive image from the film. The bloody still (above) comes from the...

As we all know, S-vhs stands for Super VHS, so either the filmmaking team behind V/H/S has gotten marketing savvy and is dipping into the comic book genre, or they’re sticking with cleverness over craven name-recognition by picking S-vhs as the name of their sequel. See if you can spot any capes in this first image – which comes from the segment from Gareth Evans (The Raid) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre). No? No capes? Just a creepy blood-covered man wearing an adult diaper from the Pov of someone wielding what looks like a used paper towel roll? Well, fine then. The project will also see short installments from Eduardo Sanchez (Blair Witch), directing with his producer partner Greg Hale; Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun); Adam Wingard (who directed the wrap-around for V/H/S); and writer Simon Barrett directing for the first time. Rumor has it that all the filmmakers will dress like this...

Twitch brought news of the title, as well as the exclusive debut of the sequel's first still, a moment from the Gareth Evans/Timo Tjahjanto teamup segment. What exactly are we seeing? Whatever it is, everything, from that smile to whatever occult-like symbol is carved into this bloody, undressed man is already laying an unsettling foundation. The weapon-in-hand looks straight out of first person shooter. Are Evans and Tjahjanto playing with the clear parallel with verité-like horror?
Earlier this year, Evans brought us the hyper violent, showstopping The Raid: Redemption, while Tjahjanto has made a name for himself with MacAbre, as well as his standout contribution to the upcoming ABCs Of Death. Clearly, this is a collaboration that should be worth admission, alone. Fortunately, S-vhs boasts a tremendous roster all around, including the return of Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett (the latter, making his directorial debut), Hobo With A Shotgun's...
