Production is under way on Altitude Film Entertainment and Citrus Films’ family movie Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, based on the popular children’s book series by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown.
Shooting now on location in the UK and Bulgaria, the film will cast the antics of the Roman Empire in a comedic light. It will follow Atti, a Roman teenager with brains but very little brawn. When one of his clever schemes falls foul of Emperor Nero, he is forced to join the army and is sent to miserable, cold, wet Britain where the natives are revolting – quite literally. Things go from bad to worse when Atti is captured by Orla, a feisty teenage Celt desperate to prove herself as a warrior.
Dominic Brigstocke, director of the TV version of the series, will make his feature directorial debut. Script comes from Jessica Swale together with Giles Pilbrow and Caroline Norris.

Sarah Hadland has stated that she is keen on the idea of a Miranda film.
Speaking on Alan Carr: Chatty Man tonight (Friday, April 17), the actress believes that the sitcom will continue in some form after it came to an end earlier this year.
"I'm hopeful that we do a film," Hadland said. "There will be something else. Yeah, I'm sure. I think there will be something in the future definitely."
Hadland also recalled how emotional things were on set during the Miranda Hart show's final days.
"I know it's really cheesy, but we really are a close cast so it was really sad," she explained.
"I see her all the time, so I wasn't that sad because I was like, 'I'll see you tomorrow when we go for a coffee'. [But] the last recording was horrific.
"We were all crying - it was horrendous. Really, really sad."

Which X Factor contestant is Kate Moss "obsessed" with? Who does Miranda Hart think is an awkward dancer? And just why does Noel Gallagher keep such a close eye on his crisp stockpile?
The answers to all the above and more were revealed tonight (October 17) in Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox special in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.
In addition to appearances by some of the show's regulars, the cast of Miranda, Moss and Gallagher were joined sofa-side by Naomi Campbell as they gave their verdict on the week's X Factor performances, Strictly Come Dancing and watched emotional footage of young people fighting cancer.
The former Oasis guitarist could be seen nodding along in approval to Andrea Faustini's performance of 'Earth Song', while Campbell smirked as Moss referred to former The Face contestant Chloe Jasmine as "more Essex than Downton Abbey".
"There's some juddery movements," observed Hart, as the...

Miranda Hart and Sarah Hadland performed a dance routine with Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha Kovalev this evening (March 12).
The Miranda actresses were taking part in the stunt for Comic Relief in Manchester as part of Hart's Mad March fundraiser.
The stunt, which was broadcast on The One Show, saw the pair dance live to '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life', made famous by the film Dirty Dancing.
Hart, having suffered an injury to her knee, refrained from performing moves that would be too strenuous. A key part of the routine involving the famous lift was performed by Hadland with Kovalev, while Hart looked on in mock horror.
On her performance, Hart said afterwards: "I am in a lot of pain but my oh my was it good fun - what a partner! Now I just need people to donate because we're doing this for a really...

Last night I suffered through Miranda, starring Miranda Hart. The laugh-a-minute fun-extravaganza is Miranda’s second series on BBC1 and follows the trials and tribulations of her extremely odd everyday life. Last night’s episode, entitled New Low, saw Miranda trying to compete with her friend Stevie (Sarah Hadland) in keeping up with their new ’20 something’ friend Tamara (Stacy Liu), who is young and trendy. Cue a lot of jokes about being mid 30s and going clubbing/staying awake/wanting to go to bed early. None of which made me laugh, but most made me cringe. One or two made me want to weep openly.
The episode also had Miranda’s Mother (Patricia Hodge), who is obviously knocking around the 60 mark, deciding she needs a mobile phone so she can receive saucy texts from Miranda’s Father. Cue a boatload of jokes about old people not getting technology, which quite...
