Vera really likes to keep us waiting. Series 11 of this beloved British detective series began broadcasting back in summer 2021, and after four episodes were released between then and January 2022, there’s been a year-long unexplained wait for the last two feature-length episodes of the series, which finally began airing on ITV1 on Sunday 15th January.
But like buses, you wait for one series of Vera and two arrive at once, as straight after Series 11 finishes we’ll be getting four more weekly episodes making up Series 12 as well, starting on 29th January.
Not only that, there’s another Vera instalment, The Rising Tide, on the way later this year, based on Ann Cleeves’s latest Vera novel of the same name.
So what can we expect from the upcoming episodes of Vera? More gruesome murders, of course, and more stunning Northumberland scenery, but there’s also going to be more...

Like some of the best illustrations that graced the covers of fantasy novels and heavy metal albums in the ’70s and ’80s, Arik Roper's artwork is a portal to another world brimming with adventure and endless possibilities. Ahead of his appearance as a featured artist at MondoCon 2016 this weekend in Austin, TX, we caught up with Roper for a special "Meet the Artist" Q&A feature, and we also have a look at some of the eye-popping artwork he'll be bringing to this year's MondoCon.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Arik. What sparked your initial interest in being an artist?
Arik Roper: It was a natural path for me, being an artist. Both my parents were artists. I was surrounded by it and I instinctively was drawn toward it, and received a lot of encouragement.
Your art often transports people deep into the realms of fantasy and horror.

Map of Bones
"Black Panther" scribe Joe Robert Cole has come onboard to pen the script for "Map of Bones," the film adaptation of the James Rollins 2005 novel for Lionsgate. John Sacchi, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are producing.
The story centers on the bones of the three Magi who paid homage to the newborn Jesus Christ. The story starts at a crowded service in Germany when armed intruders in monks' robes unleash a nightmare of destruction, and its up to a covert branch of the U.S. Defense department to discover the truth.

Emma Thompson is superb as Mary Poppins author Pl Travers as she tries to resist Walt Disney's transformation of her famous creation
Anyone who has seen and loved Mary Poppins as much as I have knows one thing for certain: it's not about the kids. For all its riotous scenes of young Jane and Michael having tea parties on the ceiling and jumping through chalk pavement pictures, it's the uptight Mr Banks who is the real target of Poppins's attentions, as she seeks to break him out of his "bank-shaped cage" and reconnect him with what really matters – his family. No wonder the enduring Disney classic ends with Mr Banks himself leading everyone in a tear-jerking chorus of Let's Go Fly a Kite; after all, it was his story all along.
This is the central thrust of Saving Mr Banks, a lovely, sentimental and quietly insightful account of the making...

Rachel Griffiths and Kathy Baker have joined the cast of drama Saving Mr Banks, which has begun principal photography in Los Angeles.
The film tells the story of the relationship between Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) and Australian author, P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), and the long journey to bring her famous book, Mary Poppins, to the big screen.
The cast also includes Colin Farrell, Ruth Wilson, Bradley Whitford, Jason Schwartzman, B.J. Novak and Paul Giamatti. Penrith-resident, 11-year-old Annie Buckley, was recently cast as Ginty (the young Travers).
Saving Mr Banks is a rarity in the Australian film industry: it began life as an Australian-uk co-production until Us studio Disney became enraptured with the project and decided to fully finance it. However, two Australian companies are still producing the film: Essential Media and Entertainment and Hopscotch Features (as well as the UK's Ruby Films).
The film may end up in a similar...

Disney and Travers
Disney began production today on Saving Mr. Banks the account of Walt Disney.s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers. popular novel, Mary Poppins, and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project.s pre-production in 1961.
Saving Mr. Banks will film entirely in the Los Angeles area, with key locations to include Disneyland in Anaheim and the Disney Studios in Burbank. Filming will conclude around Thanksgiving, 2012, with no specific 2013 release date yet set. I’d suspect an end-of-the-year bow for an awards season push. But who will this type of subject matter appeal to exactly? Unless your a fan of Mary Poppins and Walt Disney, it seems boring. They better jazz it up somehow. It reads like an old-peoples’ movie. An HBO showing may have been a better venue for Saving Mr. Banks. On the other hand it could be huge,...

It's over: The 2010-11 TV season as measured by Nielsen officially ended Wednesday night (May 25). It was a rough year for new series -- only a handful of first-year shows made it to a second season -- but a number of veteran shows had strong seasons, and a few in particular went out with a bang.
As for others, well, let's just say that it's probably a good thing they have the summer off to rejuvenate.
We've watched dozens of season and series finales over the past couple of months. Here are Zap2it's picks (in alphabetical order) for the best and worst of the bunch.
The Best
"Brothers & Sisters": As a season finale, it was excellent. All the major stories of the season were wrapped up with just a few small teases for the next season, and we got a fun wedding with a hilarious musical number by the men.
