"One of this year's very best films, and one that directly addresses Europe's fraught relationship with its colonial and post-colonial relationship with Africa, was notably absent from Tiff 2011," notes Michael Sicinski at Cargo. "Ulrich Köhler's Sleeping Sickness not only focuses on two socio-politically entangled physicians — a German 'gone native' and an Congolese-Frenchman with no direct ties to the continent — involved in an African aid mission. It deals quite directly with the multiple levels of corruption and bureaucratic failure built into European NGOs and their African governance, a system of mutual exploitation and double-dealing."
"In the first half," writes Elise Nakhnikian in the L, "a German doctor, Ebbo Velten (Pierre Bokma), and his wife (Jenny Shily) are preparing to leave Cameroon, where they were stationed for years while he worked for Doctors Without Borders. They're going back to Germany, but they've been in Africa so long they're not sure it will still feel like home.

Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe and Sean Hayes as Larry on the set of The Three Stooges
Photo: Andrew Snook via Deadline.com The above snap from the the set of The Three Stooges was posted on Deadline and it almost seems like it's out of a dream -- a horrible, end of cinema kind of dream. I can't for the life of me think of why anyone would be anticipating this film and then to add on top of it the fact it's a production that went from having Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro to one with Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos makes it even worse. Then consider the fact it was written and is being directed by the Farrelly brothers (Hall Pass) and I have to wonder why 20th Century Fox would ever agree to distribute it.

Would you say summer has begun... at least in terms of movies? Let's see... Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 1 Weeks In A Row Fast Five Fast and Furious held the previous April opening record with $70.9 million. The same film held the previous April opening day record with $30.6 million. The largest opening ever for a Universal Pictures film was Steven Spielberg's Lost World: Jurassic Park, which brought in $72.1 million back in 1997. All of those records are now held by one film... Fast Five.
Laremy went rather conservative with his $77 million prediction, but the first user prediction on the board last week was the closest as Athar jumped out of the gates with an $83.5 million prediction. Hard to beat that one.
Result: $83.6 million
Laremy's rank: Laremy picked it to finish #1 and his prediction of $77 million was $6.6m off for a percentage error of 7.89%.
2. Rio Rio dipped 45% in its third weekend and...

It's Cheyenne On Glee! Squeeeee!
I thought I'd start of this week's column with some fun new pics I found recently!
First, I've got the exclusive first look at Cheyenne Jackson's first appearance on Glee as Will Schuester's new rival Dustin Goulsby.
Don't you love a man in black!
Adam Rose/Fox
In case you don't remember, last month Glee creator Ryan Murphy told me that Jackson "...is going to sing. He is going to dance, of course. He is the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline. He’s a complete villain. He wears all black. He’s a handsome, villain who will become very intertwined in Will’s life."
And we can't wait for Cheyenne's appearance on Tuesday's ep!
Speaking of things I can't wait for is new Torchwood miniseries (Ha! Whoever threw the rotten cabbage at me missed!) so to tide us over are two new pics I spotted of John Barrowman.

Ausiello: Even though nearly two months will have passed since the shooting rampage, Derek will still be in pretty bad shape when the season starts. And I’m not talking physically.
Question: What can you tell us about the Grey’s Anatomy premiere?...

Calling Old Dogs utterly unbearable may be the understatement of the year alongside "healthcare needs an overhaul." A family comedy by genre only, this John Travolta and Robin Williams vehicle is so maligned, mismanaged and other "M" words, that a point is reached in the movie where audiences are forced to ask, "Wait, is this a joke? Is Old Dogs really this godawful or is Walt Becker playing a huge yet fabulously hilarious prank on me?"
No. Director Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) is not playing a prank on you, unless you call wasting an hour and a half of your life on this poo trap a "prank."
Travolta and Williams are longtime buddies who head a sports PR firm. Travolta's Charlie likes to have good times while Williams' Dan is a pent-up fuddy-duddy. Both are exhausting. When Dan reunites with Vicki (Kelly Preston, Travolta's real-life wife), his one-night stand from almost a decade earlier,...

Chicago – Culturally insensitive, disgusting, violent, vile, and shockingly unfunny, “Old Dogs” is the kind of embarrassment for which stars, writers, and directors should be forced to do community service. If someone delivered a product this awful to you at a restaurant, you wouldn’t have to pay for it and you could probably sue. Those of you who paid to see it in theaters, should consider a class action case. The rest of you should just avoid it like you would a dog turd on the sidewalk.
Blu-Ray Rating: 0.5/5.0
“Old Dogs” is one of those comedies that mistakes physical violence for humor. Punch a guy in the face, slam a woman’s hands in a trunk, hit a kid in the face with a soccer ball - why write actual jokes when you can just shoot people falling down in pain and the occasional hilarious dog reaction shot? “Wild Hogs,...

Aubrey O'Day took some time out of her busy "Peepshow" rehearsals to work with Young Money's Shanell Woodgette for a cover of Eddie Murphy's 1985 hit "Party All the Time."
O'Day worked with Maestro on the production and, according to Celebuzz, she even wrote a new bridge for the song. O'Day posted a link to the track on her Twitter page.
This isn't Woodgette's first collaboration with one of the Danity Kane ladies — Shanell is actually "Making the Band" alum D. Woods' sister and has written songs for the group, including "Key to My Heart" off their Welcome to the Dollhouse album. She also penned Lil Wayne's "Prom Queen."

Walt Disney Pictures were wasting no time in rolling down the red carpet for a world premiere gala of their upcoming romantic comedy "The Proposal". On Monday, June 1, weeks away from the film's theatrical release, the mouse house made use of the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California to hold the first screening event for the movie.
Two of the leading actors for the movie, Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, were present on the special night. While Sandra was spotted arriving solo, Ryan went to the premiere accompanied by his mother. The two were later joined by their co-stars, Betty White, Oscar Nunez, Craig T. Nelson, Malin Akerman, Michael Nouri and Mini Anden.
Prior to the premiere, both Sandra and Ryan have sat down with Et's Mary Hart to discuss about their nude scene. Of the matter, Sandra said, "This film needs my nudity to be funny." Ryan, in the meantime,...

After triumphing for two years in a row, Jake Gyllenhaal is not the winner of our third annual AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll (see the results for 2007 here and 2008 here). So which out man did take the top spot? If you’re the kind of person who always burns their mouth biting into that piping hot chocolate chip cookie, you can just cheat and go here to learn who came in first place.
Here at AfterElton.com, we’re thrilled to announce an out gay man topped this year’s list – especially this particular man as most of us voted for him as well. In fact, out gay men snagged nearly 20% of the spots, including the top three. To be sure, we’ve nothing against our straight male crushes, but it says something great about 2009 that there are so many out men to choose from.
What we find almost as interesting...
