Felicity Huffman has portrayed overwhelmed mom Lynette Scavo on Desperate Housewives, the bigoted mother of a young war veteran who was brutally killed in a home invasion robbery in American Crime, and an astute headmaster Leslie Graham dealing with troubling allegations concerning the school’s basketball team in American Crime: Season 2.
Now she’s taking on a new role: “girl boss.”
Huffman acquired rights to The Iron Will of Shoeshine Cats, the 2009 novel by Hesh Kestin in which 20-year-old Russell Newhouse, a quick-witted scholar and womanizer, is thrust into New York’s organized crime scene by a man called Shushan “Shoeshine” Cats.
“My brother called me and said, ‘I found this book, you have to make it.’ I read it and I thought, ‘I have to make it,’ ” Huffman told Deadline. Huffman, in turn, recruited Aaron Kaplan to join her in the project, which she is developing as a series through Warner Bros Television.

William H. Macy is getting through the Primetime Emmy Awards with some liquid courage. The Shameless star told People about his awards night go-tos at Showtime's Emmy Eve Party at the Sunset Tower Hotel on Saturday night. The 12-time Emmy nominee mentioned that he requires three essentials going into any awards night. "Yes, the three F's: Food, bring a power bar, something like that. Flask, bring a little alcohol. Pharmaceuticals." This year marks Macy's third Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his role as Frank Gallagher in Shameless. He was also nominated for his roles...

As recently as eight weeks ago, the most stable relationship on American Crime was the chummy dynamic between Headmaster Leslie Graham and Coach Dan Sullivan.
But in our exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s season finale (ABC, 10/9c), that camaraderie between colleagues is nowhere to be found.
In the scene embedded above, Timothy Hutton’s basketball coach pays Leslie a visit at Leyland, begging for some help with his daughter’s recent legal ordeal — but he quickly realizes that cashing in favors with the administration isn’t as easy as it once was.

A word of warning to the characters on American Crime: That phone call you’re about to make is probably not a good idea.
When Season 2 of the ABC drama began, Lili Taylor’s Anne Blaine made a 911 call (“I’d like to report a rape”) that rocked both her and her son’s worlds, with arguably very little payoff. And on Wednesday’s episode, history repeated itself when Joey Pollari‘s Eric Tanner picked up his cell phone and dialed rape accuser Taylor, asking if the two could hash things out at the local rec center.
But that...

On episode 4 of American Crime, Eric's dad goes to Terri and Michael for help but gets rebuffed, Taylor returns to public school, Kevin makes a statement to the police and evidence surfaces that calls Taylor's allegations into question.
Leslie Graham has been busy playing offense regarding the alleged assault against Taylor, but now that the case is being investigated as a rape, she's got to change her tact. She sits down with Dan Sullivan and confronts him with the facts and informs him that either his whole team is deceiving him, or one person is deceiving the team.

I'm convinced: American Crime is one of the best shows on network TV. This episode can feel transitional at times, but it's a great example of showrunner John Ridley's tight, effective writing. Ridley is playing with themes and issues that emerge organically from his characters. Nothing feels grafted onto this plot. When we last saw Anne Blaine (Lili Taylor), she was going to the press after Leyland Academy and the police declined to investigate Taylor's rape accusation. This episode begins as the school's headmaster, Leslie Graham (Felicity Huffman), sits down for an interview about the scandal. She's in spin-control mode — defensive, but deftly pushing blame onto others. She points out how they met with Anne three times, and each time, she didn't have answers for them. She's planting seeds of doubt, and she's simply better at handling the media than Anne is. It's an unfair fight. In a therapy session,...

On episode 2 of American Crime, Anne faces more obstacles as she continues to find ways to help Taylor. Leslie Graham orchestrates a preemptive strike in the likelihood that Anne's allegations become public and Teri, fueled by personal prejudices, continues to derail Kevin's relationship with Val. And if that wasn't enough, Eric has a secret.
Two uniformed police officers, a male and female, show up at Anne's apartment in response to her 911 call. The police want to know when and where the rape occurred and the identity of the victim. When Anne reveals that the victim is her son, the male officer does a double take. Anne can't provide the name of the assailant or assailants, stating Taylor can't recall because he was drugged.

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
T/W: series discusses rape at length, fourth episode depicts a suicide attempt.
The excellent first season of ABC’s American Crime explored the murder of a war veteran and, in the process, conducted a deeply thoughtful and fruitful probe into questions of class, race, guilt and national identity. With its astute writing and cinematic direction, not to mention a cadre of Emmy-caliber performances, the series – from 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley – unfolded as a saga in miniature, deftly weaving weighty issues into a compelling crime narrative. Simply put, it was breathtaking.
For his second act, Ridley hasn’t altered American Crime‘s thematic course so much as expanded it. Racial tensions still simmer beneath the streets of his new Indianapolis setting. And class disparity drives the plot, especially when it focuses on the uneasy relations between officials at a prestigious private school and external community members,...

After six years in 'retirement', Staines's finest is set to return in Ali G: Rezurection, on Fox network's Fxx comedy channel
Ali G is back in da house – at least, if your house is in the Us and you subscribe to the Fox network's Fxx comedy channel, which has persuaded Sacha Baron Cohen to revive his breakthrough comic character.
It's been six years since Baron Cohen officially "retired" Ali G, along with his Kazakhstani counterpart Borat, though the Staines wide boy made a surprise appearance at last year's British comedy awards to accept Baron Cohen's lifetime achievement award.
However, the 42-year-old comedian will record his first new material as Ali G – real name Alistair Leslie Graham – in a decade for a series of introductions that will precede old episodes of Da Ali G Show on Fxx as part of a season dubbed Ali G: Rezurection.
