- [on his novel Shadow of the Condor] My second published novel, the least accomplished of my works. A Soviet "sleeper cell" collides with Condor and Chinese assassins. As I wrote SHADOW, I projected Condor arcing through a quintet of novels, from innocent rookie to burned-out scarred professional. However, my stupendous luck of having Robert Redford "define" Condor weakened the character as "Grady's" fictional tool, plus I did not want to be pigeon holed as the "Condor only" author.
