Best Picture favorite “Oppenheimer” and “The Holdovers” were the drama and comedy editing winners at the 74th Ace Eddie Awards, March 3 at UCLA’s Royce Hall. “Oppenheimer” editor Jennifer Lame is now a step closer to winning the Oscar for deftly balancing Christopher Nolan’s interlocking, subjective POVs of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Best Actor nominee Cillian Murphy) in color and adversary Admiral Lewis Strauss (Best Supporting Actor nominee Robert Downey Jr.) in black-and-white.
The other Oscar nominees are “The Holdovers” (edited by Ace president Kevin Tent), Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Anatomy of Fall,” and “Poor Things.”
“Spider-Man: Across the Universe” won the animation award, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” earned theatrical documentary honors, and “Escaping Twin Flames” took the non-theatrical prize.
TV editing winners included “The Last of Us” for drama series, “Beef” for limited series, “How I Met Your Father” for multi-camera comedy series, “The Bear” for single-camera comedy series,...

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” topped the dramatic feature editing category at the American Cinema Editors’ 74th Ace Eddie Awards, while “The Holdovers” won the category for best edited comedic feature during Sunday’s ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall.
Jennifer Lame edited “Oppenheimer,” which also took top honors at last week’s SAG Awards and Producers Guild Awards. The recent honor further cements the film’s position to take top prize at the Oscars next weekend. But she faces competition from Kevin Tent, who won here for “The Holdovers.”
Should Lame go on to win the Oscar, it will mark nine years since a woman has won. Margaret Sixel won in 2015 for “Mad Max: Fury Road.”
Tent, also president of Ace, kicked off the ceremony addressing last year’s labor strikes, saying, “It’s great to look out and see so many rock star editors…Last year was an extraordinarily...

HBO’s adaptation of the popular PlayStation game, “The Last of Us,” is making waves in the award season. Recently, the series bagged eight awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. This is a big deal, especially considering the show is also lined up for more honors at the upcoming Primetime Emmys.
Let’s talk about some of the awards the show won. For starters, Storm Reid and Nick Offerman won the awards for Guest Actress and Actor in a Drama Series for their performances in episodes “Left Behind” and “Long, Long Time” respectively. It’s clear their roles left a lasting impression!
The show also stood out in technical categories. The episode “Infected” won the award for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, with a team led by Barrie Gower. The skills of Alex Wang and his team in visual effects were recognized too, winning the Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a season or movie.

This post contains spoilers for episode 5 of "The Last of Us."
In "The Last of Us," death is everywhere, but we don't always see it. We don't see Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) take their last breaths in bed together, and we don't see a shot of Tess (Anna Torv) being burned by an explosion after sacrificing herself to an infected horde. We also didn't see the executions Kansas City's brutal leader Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey) signed off on — or in one case, took into her own hands — during her two-episode arc.
But for the first time in the series' run so far, episode 5 of "The Last of Us" brings a level of carnage fit to match its source material, first bloodying things up with a massive face-off between the infected, Kathleen's group, and Joel's (Pedro Pascal) traveling companions. More importantly, though, the episode pulls zero punches in its final moments,...

One of the key distinctions between editing in film or television versus video games is needing to find the best scenes and moments without being able to totally adjust the performances after the fact. This is one of the advantages James Cameron has with the "Avatar" movies, which are essentially hyper-realistic animated films. As a live action TV show though, and not a wholly CGI experience, the editing process for "The Last of Us'' was certain to be extremely different from how the game was made.
Like any film or TV production, not everything filmed could make the final cut, but with its A-list cast and crew, the video game adaptation was sure to face some especially difficult trades in the editing room. The thoughtfulness and precision that goes into the show's cinematography on a frame-by-frame basis further underscores this point.

Before Fringe came along there was an odd-shaped hole in the TV schedule. When Buffy The Vampire Slayer slayed her last (and was ultimately replaced by the vastly inferior, franchise-extending Angel), the supernatural tastes of millions of fans was cast aside, never to be wholly satiated until Jj Abrams – surely the king of TV ideas – brought his X-Files variant to screens in 2008. No more though, as the show has for the past three seasons announces itself as one of the most innovative and entertaining sci-fi shows to have ever graced scenes.
And now, fans can own the blu-ray of the explosive third season, in which Fox really kicked on with the quality of the show (or should that be “shows”).
Since its inception, Fringe’s narratives have wound tighter and wierder than the Twilight Show, and the show’s cast of characters have entered the collective consciousness of the supernatural...
