Loot Crate sent me the January 2016 box full of all kinds of goodies for sci-fi lovers. The theme of this month's crate is “Invasion,” and it was packed full of stuff with themes of The X-Files, Aliens, Space Invaders, and The Fifth Element. Below you’ll find a breakdown of what is in the box.
Exclusive X-Files The Day Has Come T-Shirt (Threadless)
With The X-Files making its comeback this month the box was packed with a t-shirt that was inspired by the series. I always enjoy the shirts that Loot Crate puts in their boxes, so of course I wear them! Why wouldn’t I want to show my love for The X-Files by wearing a t-shirt?
The FBI’s most wanted t-shirt can only be found in your Loot Crate! The result of a design contest collaboration with Loot Crate and Threadless, the winning submission is by the...

'The Sea Inside': Javier Bardem and director Alejandro Amenábar. 'The Sea Inside': Outstanding supporting cast help to lift flawed Right to Die drama Alejandro Amenábar's The Sea Inside often verges on melodrama, featuring as its centerpiece a showy performance by Javier Bardem as a tetraplegic man eager to end his life “with dignity.” Its not inconsiderable flaws notwithstanding – including a simplistic “right to die” debate – this real-life-inspired drama is in and of itself both compelling and touching enough to merit a look; but what makes The Sea Inside a must-see are the superb performances of those in Bardem's periphery. The story revolves around Ramón Sampedro (Javier Bardem), a middle-aged man who has been bed-ridden and dependent on the care of others since a diving accident in his early 20s. (Hence the original Spanish title “Into the Sea.”) Yearning for freedom from his mostly immobile body,...

It’s a science fiction Golden Age in comic books right now, and one of the most unique titles has certainly been Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Albuquerque’s Letter 44. Like last year’s fantastic indie film Europa Report, Letter 44 is tied closely enough to the real world—and real science—that it’s not difficult to imagine it happening as a result of politics and experimental space exploration. And it seems that the SyFy channel, while certainly a fan of schlocky monster movies, can also appreciate the gravity of finding new life in space, as publisher Oni Press has recently announced the channel’s upcoming adaptation of Letter 44 for television.
Here’s the press release, including a short plot summary:
Portland, Or (April 30, 2014) – Oni Press is thrilled to announce that Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Alburquerque’s hit ongoing series Letter 44 has been picked up for development for television by SyFy!
