WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Ahead of the country's busiest filmmaking summer in years, two government initiatives are being launched today to make offshore filming in New Zealand easier and more efficient. Locations office Film New Zealand is driving the Studio New Zealand Brand Partnership, which will provide a nationwide resource for large-scale projects like The Last Samurai, which starts a four-month shoot here Jan. 13. The regional partnerships developed under the Studio New Zealand brand will send a key message to the international screen production community, Film New Zealand commissioner Jane Gilbert said.
