- Sign-off on Texas Bruce and the Wranglers was, "Hasta la vista, vaqueros." Texas Bruce's horse was Trustee.
- Father was a Washington University-trained physician.
- Had four sons by long-time wife Jean: David, Christopher, Buckner and Scott.
- Received the Nellie Booth Memorial Award in recognition of his years of service to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).
- Traded in his boots and cowboy hat for a business suit, moving to a career in advertising. He also was active in many community groups, including the Red Cross, which he served as vice chairman.
- In 1946, he co-hosted a show called "TeleQuiz" with Dottie Bennett. He worked in radio after the quiz show job, until the offer to play Texas Bruce came along in 1950.
- Earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Washington University in 1941, then served as an officer in the Marines in World War II, stationed on Guadalcanal, Munda and other Pacific Islands.
- Gibbs hosted "The Wranglers Club," a local St. Louis kids show, which ran from 1950 to 1963, taking on the role of a cowboy with his horse "Trusty".
