- Son of former Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, grandson of Indira Gandhi and great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru.
- Is the second member of the fifth generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family to enter into active politics. His younger cousin Varun Gandhi joined the BJP in early 2004. Rahul is however, the first member of the 5th generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family to contest any election. Varun is still under age to stand in an election
- Elected to Lok Sabha from Amethi in 2004. According to reports in the media and party sources, Gandhi is soon going to be inducted into the Congress Party Working Committee and become a General Secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh and Frontal Organisations such as the Indian Youth Congress (July 2006)
- Has been a constant subject of ridicule on social media due to his inability to engage in political debates, foolish statements on national issues and visible lack of knowledge of even the most basic subjects.
- Was at the helm of the Indian National Congress as it's Prime Minister candidate in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections when his party suffered its worst defeats since independence, winning only 44 and 51 seats respectively. As per parliamentary rules, an organization must have at least one-tenth or approximately 54 seats to be considered the main opposition in the lower house of the parliament. Therefore, India since 2014 has officially been without any representing opposition.
- Was humorously called "Shehzada", which translates to a prince in Urdu, by Bhartiya Janata Party Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi during campaigning in 2013-14, as a reference to his lineage with the Nehru-Gandhi family which has produced 3 Prime Ministers, including his great grandfather and India's inaugural Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
- Like his father before him, he is not very fluent in Hindi, which is rather ironic since the constituency of Amethi he represented for 15 years is largely rural and never underwent any sort of development in terms of economy and education. Also, election campaigns aside, Gandhi never visited Amethi in general.
