Isaiah Washington will be co-starring and playing multiple roles in the play Unspeakable, which is described a "dramatic fantasia" on the life and career of comedy icon Richard Pryor, in a new production of the play in Chicago, for a limited 8-week engagement at the Royal George Theater, starting on October 2. The 2005 play was first performed at the New York International Fringe Festival with co-writer James Murray Jackson Jr., who played the role of Pryor, and who will be reprising the role for this new Chicago production. Shadow and Act, the popular black cinema blog, today announced an alliance with Cei Media Partners to debut the Shadow And Act Filmmaker Showcase. The Showcase is an online short film competition where viewers vote for their favorite films and the winning filmmakers receive cash prizes.
Participating films will be streamed exclusively on the Shadow and Act site during the first 10 days of its qualifying round. After spending the last 2 months reading, re-reading and re-reading some 50+ short scripts and/or outlines, as well as watching and re-watching several short films sent in support of each application… we’ve chosen a winner of the second Shadow And Act Filmmaker Challenge.
First, I’d like to thank everyone who submitted their work. It takes courage to allow others to read and closely scrutinize your art, and we’re all grateful that those who did participate were willing, confident and trusting enough to enter the challenge!
Second, it was actually not an easy decision at all! There were fewer entries this time, and, in reading each script, we took into a number of things into consideration, like: the freshness and originality of the story, whether it’s something we haven’t really seen on screen before, or just don’t see very much of, and, most importantly, whether it...
