The character Harry Flashman first appears in the 19th-century novel "Tom Brown's Schooldays"; Flashman is the cowardly bully who torments Tom. He based his stories on the notion that Flashman's "memoirs" had been discovered in an old trunk in an auction house in Leicestershire.
