- Composer ("Shiny Stockings"), arranger, saxophonist and publisher, educated at Wilberforce University. He was a saxophonist in the Detroit area between 1949 and 1951, then served in the US Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he joined the Count Basie orchestra as a saxophonist, composer and arranger, remaining until 1964. He also did freelance arranging and publishing.
